Well today I have been in an car accident. Minding my own business at the traffic lights and some muppet smacks on his breaks and skids into the back of me. As it happened he didn't in the end rear end me luckily and only clipped the side of the car. As it transpired the guy was absolutely plastered and could barely stand up.

Had to laugh, when the police interviewed him he claimed to have had 2 non alcoholic beers. After doing the breath test the policeman said that he would never get his licence back he was so far over the limit.

In the end I was very very lucky it wasn't worse as he was travelling at some speed and the accident could have been much worse! I have lost my car now for a while as I need new panels back and side and a new wheel. I presume that his insurance will cover everything (thankfully he was insured at least).

It was a bit weird actually. In the UK he definately would have been cuffed and put in the back of the cop car but here they just let him wander about aimlessly.

He was a bit of a sorry old fella and he was doing well falling over of his own accord so I just left him to it!!

On the continent they're pretty slack on drink drivers...  For instance, in Germany a driver well over the limit can serve just a month ban, whereas if you are charged in this country the minimum is twelve months.  It's difficult to call - as long as no one is hurt there's little harm done!!  Just hope the insurance pays out and blokey learns his lesson!

I love how people get all high and mighty on the subject when a large proportion of drivers (especially male it has to be said) have at some point driven whilst over the limit, whether knowingly or unknowingly....

Thing is Walrus most of us have done things illegal or wrong.....the fact is you get judged when it goes tits up..thats life,a man may drive 100 times over the limit and never get caught...that dosnt mean the person who drives just once over the limit dosnt get punished if he gets caught....your post is shocking...as long as theres no harm done its ok?...and how does blokey learn his lesson?...and if the germans give 1 month bans to drink drivers they are more stupid,ignorant and arrogante than i know them to be anyway.

I don't think it's down to being high and mighty,Some people will feel different about drink driving to other's.My wife's mother was killed many years ago now by a drink driver,I think high and mighty is the wrong expression,even tho i know what you're trying to say.

Personally I think the 12 month minimum is correct. I don't think you can quite grasp the impact of the punishment if it's only a month or two, convicted driving crimes need harsh disqualifications in order to reinforce the law with the individual.

Theoretically driving like a twat/speeding and drink/drug driving can all be similar offences and pose a danger to others on the road, these breaches of the law should all be dealt with in a similar manner. The former offences aren't dealt with harshly enough and that's why so many people do it.

I have no idea where Bradley's corner is, but it was in Luxembourg. Apparently due to the level of alcohol in the guys blood the guy that drove into me will be banned for a minimum of 2 years. Had I or my passenger been injured he would have gone to prison. So the cops told me yesterday.
