Didn't see the whole of what happened but i thought rudi sent it upstairs,not the batsman. The umpire is allowed to do this is he not (just like a run out or checking on a boundary)? Its just the players that can't argue against the umpires decision until referals come into use. That shouldn't have been 3rd umpired though,blatantly not out,Rudi's on his last legs if you ask me. |

My understanding was that he could go upstairs to check if the ball carried to the fielder but not whether it had been hit or not to start with. However, Atherton then said on Sky that they've just changed it so that the 3rd Umpire can tell him that he didn't hit it even though that wasn't the question asked. Logical change in my opinion, just didn't realise it had been made. My apologies Rudi, you're still an awful umpire though. Get Taufel in, hardly matters that he's an Aussie. |
