Our hope at the outset, was that Australia might be as equally poor as us, having lost so many great players. The opportunity to prove this point was thrown away on Wednesday, by batsmen getting in on a decent track and failing to go onto big scores, by poor shot selection rather than decent bowling.

The Convicts, just ground it out...FFS even Katich got a ton, leaving our pie chuckers with nowhere to go but Lords 1 down.  I'm sure we all know we've won a men's Wimbledon more recently than beating the Convicts here.

Just hope it rains all day tomorrow or it's defeat for us. Terrible performance today.

If we can have one session rained off tomorrow, I think we'll be OK.  Alternatively, the remaining 9 batsmen could grow some balls and we might be OK as well.  Bit of a let down so far.

Lordie, the morons on this Cricket 6-0-6 are even worse than on the football versions.

Dizzy Gillespie is a bit of a legend mind.

Its the age old english cricketing problem. Man for man we're technically equivalent to the aussie, perhaps better in some departments. Sadly we don't have a pare of testicals between them, and as such wilt at the first sign of any hostility, like a lettuce leaf in a conservatory

True that. Fucking bottlers under pressure. Can see it being all over if there's more than 1 session of play tomorrow. I mean can we really expect KP to last 90 overs? Honestly?

First three get out to straight balls, then Strauss and Prior cut an off spinner. Fucking mess.

We're still going though believe it or not. Amazing stuff. Maybe the rain will come when we are 9 down?

Pitch invaders don't fancy leaving the pitch. At least one Englishman is putting up a fight.

I was really looking forward to the ashes.
Now I can't even be bothered to watch this test match.

I will try and be more optimistic for Thursday. Unsure

I think the biggest danger is that England fans switch off.  This is the first Ashes series (I think) that has not been free to view on TV.  This, combined with a whimpering display, might just mean that the potential audience turns away.

And that's dangerous for cricket.  The Ashes series is to cricket what Wimbledon is for tennis and the Six Nations for rubgy.  It's the occasion when the non-core support listens up and pays attention for a while.  Without it, the sport will eventually atrophy...and no satellite/cable channels will be interested then.

I'm hoping that such a miserable post will have a reverse jinxing effect and lead to a spirited England defence - and plenty of pictures of dejected/incredulous Australians in tomorrow's papers.

Pretty certain the last one in Australia was Sky only as well. The viewing figures have been pretty poor, about 500,000 watching on Sky and 1.2m on Five (the highlights) - don't seem that high for the biggest cricket event.

There isn't any live cricket on free to air channels any more is there? Very stupid from the cricket authorities point of view, taking a short term gain and damaging the long term support of the game.
