That is correct, 32 and playing in the Championship is impressive.

Is it? 32 in 2025 isn't really in 2025 isn't really old is it? James Milner will be playing outfield Prem football at 40 this season.

Milner is a freak of nature. At 32, you might expect to be playing in a lower division, or retirement as many ex-Premier League players can afford to not keep on playing.

Ashley Young is 38 and just signed for Ipswich. Thiago Silva played 30 games for Chelsea at 38/39 a couple of seasons back. Johnny Evans retired this summer as a 37 yr old having stayed a Premier League player for the last 10/12 years Modric is what 39 and just signed for A.C. Milan, where Baresi played until he was 38 Gibbs and Sheringham both played until they were 40 32 is no age.

Typically it is, atypically it isn't. Stanley Mathews was 42 when he last played for England, and 50 playing in the top division, so there have always been exceptions. Charlie Austin was 34 when released by Swindon going into non-league, that seems about typical.

Footballers age differently from each other.
Style of play, injuries, life style etc.
Only have to look at 40 year old Ronaldo & 39 year old Wayne Rooney…

No comparison, Ronaldo doesn’t go out shagging old women.

He has had a history of injuries throughout his time at the Town and subsequently at the Jobsworth stadium, good luck to him, it might be getting a little old for him now.

I thought this was reasonably interesting, so looked up the player data from last season in the Prem - 26 outfield players 32 or older played more than 1500 minutes (out of 219 of any age). I expected more, but I think it's probably fair to say your 'average' Prem player falls off about then. Some big name outliers - Salah, Son, KDB, Virgil van Dijk - but they are outliers. https://www.whoscored.com/regions/252/tournaments/2/seasons/10316/stages/23400/playerstatistics/england-premier-league-2024-202547/290 in League Two which suggests the same pattern isn't true at our level - probably a mix of people dropping down from higher divisions and L2 stalwarts who still have the fitness. Probably can't underplay the fact that most players at this level aren't set for life in the way Prem players are financially either.
