I have no love for Man Utd so go for it, put him in as number 1!

TBH the lad has surprised me that hes done so well there, kept 10 clean sheets in 27 games this season, but with us he was absolutely shocking.

Congratulations to Manchester United's talented 23-yr-old goalkeeper, Matěj Kovář 👏🏽👏🏽

My boy helped Sparta Prague win the 2022 - 2023 Czech First League with 10 CS in 27 matches. He's worth €50m in my book. Bring him back to Old Trafford

Looking at the Stats looks like he has had a pretty decent season over there, not sure how much can be read into his abilities considering the absolutely gash team he was playing in here, he obviously has something about him as Man U rate him.

Mind you, the comedic defenders he had in front of him would have made a top class keeper look bad - the back 3/4 made some horrendous errors that season and didn’t protect any of our keepers really.

That is true but Travers and Wollacott both came in and looked far better keepers in their short spell with the same defence in front of them.

Getting beaten repeatedly on his near post, erratic kicking and distribution are individual traits and not much to do with the defence in front of him.

He was out of his depth in league football at the time he came.

Glad a bit more experience has seen him improve.

Yeah, it just didn't work out for him here from the outset with a very poor loan spell followed by an even shorter loan spell at Burton. For his next loan spell to be with the Czech champions (I suspect the standard of the Czech league is pretty poor) and for him to make a success of it is testament to the guy. I assume he learned loads from his spell here (which didn't help us granted) and may go on to have a very good career.

Fair play.

Kovar had the positional sense of a ten year old keeper. It was like you were playing FIFA and accidentally has trangle held down on your keeper and he's gone on walkabout half the time.

Alex Gilbert wins Brentford’s B team player of the year.

Another example of people writing off a young player far too soon.

What level is Brentford B? Do they play against men’s sides or just u23s?

I think he was a good technical player who struggled with the rough and tumble of L2.

He needed to toughen up IMO.

Interested to see where he goes next season.

Both Kovar and Gilbert have absolute state of the art training facilities to utilise and the best staff that money can buy. Both players loans here were their first steps in dipping their toes into proper league football. Unfortunately both loans were underwhelming. But Man U and Brentford can use the tools they have available to them to help these players learn from their mistakes and develop them to the best of their abilities. Unfortunately we are used as a pawn in this process and if we get a duff loan then we lose out. On the other side of the coin, if a player has developed much quicker than expected, we get a shit hot loan.

Neil Webb, living in Reading and working as a delivery driver.

Auctioning off some of his memento's to boost his pension pot-

No mention in the article of him appearing for us (6 times on loan) but that is hardly surprising I suppose.

It goes to show how easy it is for an ex England international to fall from grace.
