The trick for them and him, is keeping him fit. As I said to the DNA, YOY’d have thought that a L1 club might have made an approach but they may have only offered a one year with an option. So a three year with the possibility of promotion would be a better deal.

According to the article in the sun, Northampton made him an offer. I suspect the 3 year deal was probably the clincher, Bradford also gave aging striker Andy Cook a 3 year deal in the summer. Always a risk with injury prone/older players.

Here's a question then. If Swindon were offered either Jack Payne or Jonny Williams on a 2 year contract but you could only pick one, who would you go for? Personally it's Payne for me.

I think it depends who is around them. I was watching the P/O game 2nd leg vs Sheff Utd from 2015 the other day. Having a Nathan Byrne on the wing would be good. Williams and Payne can do that when you have a strong midfield. But that team was let down by Anton Rodgers and I fear in the wrong midfield, Payne and Williams could be a bit like Rodgers.

A definite feeling of ‘clearing the decks’ going on - quite successfully, too.
