Blimey,I used to play for them. 1982-1985.They used to attract ex league players even back then. Paul Christopher,ex Bournemouth, Ken Wookey ex Newport and Mike Hughes,ex Yeovil .

Here's a question then. If Swindon were offered either Jack Payne or Jonny Williams on a 2 year contract but you could only pick one, who would you go for? Personally it's Payne for me.

Definitely Jack Payne.

Williams might be a technically better player but doesn’t have the same effect on a game as Jack Payne does.

That's my thought as well. It's a tough comparison as Payne was in a better side than Williams was in last season, but I recently watched the highlights of the Port Vale play off game home leg and Payne was involved in absolutely everything we did going forward that game. I think Payne brings more to the table.

Payne vs FGR was a L2 version of Roy Keane vs Juventus in Turin in the 1999 Treble year. Literally driving a team over the line by example.

I loved Jonny but he never quite managed that level of performance. He was terrific against Bradford at home this year and one of our best players of the last five years at least but Payne in the Play Off season was simply outstanding.

We so need an aggressive destroyer in midfield that it was inevitable Williams would be the one to make way being OOC.

I think, apart from any new signings, there may be a couple of permanent positional changes of current personnel.

Maybe Williams is off to the Pikeys. Think he’d lose any goodwill if he turns up there.

Pulled out of the Bradford move at the 11th hour to sign for Gillingham. Guessing they decided to match his 3 year deal.

Must say it’s funny to watch when it’s not us on the receiving end of these.

‘Vastly improving his wages at Swindon’

Glad we didn’t get involved in that. Good move to just let him go.

If rumours are to be believed he was supposed to have been having a medical at Bradford at lunchtime and sacked them off just before that, suggestion main thing was family didn't need to move.
