I'd give him some sort of role overseeing scouting/youth development - like Newcastle gave Wise.  Most of our decent signings have come through him and all the decent youth prospects seem to have his hand in their signing as well.  If it's a talent he has, then we would do well to ensure it's harnessed long term.

Why not just let him do what DW wants him to do? If that's assistant manager, what's the problem?

Everytime I go on the adver site I see comments from people saying we should get rid of him and I can't really understand why.

Personally Im not keen on him as a person - he comes across as billy the big head

But then again he seems to have faded into the background alot since Wilson came - Im keen for him to stay there really
That's a pretty good summing up imo.

I think the guy has passion about what he does and quite rightly enjoys seeing the fans enjoying the occassion and acknowledges that by going over and applauding them - I think people mistake this as him being a narsosist and only out for his own gain.

Dave Byrne has undoubted passion for the club, or at least it certainly appears it to me anyway. when i was watching swindon reserves vs forest green reserves up at the new lawn about 5 months ago, i was sitting about 6 seats away from him and Malpas. Maurice was just sitting there and watching, while Byrne actually stoop up and had a shout at the players every now and then. For a neutral who didnt know anything about eitehr team, they would have undoubtedely thought that DB was the manager.

Budgie's efforts have helped the finances of the club, so it is no surprise that the board support him.  His ability to spot a good prospect is essential to the survival of a League 1 club.  Paul Sturrock recruited him, so he is highly rated at least for youth development.

How many first team coaches do you need.I would imagin DW does a lot of the coaching along with DB as his back up and by the way i have spoken to 1-2 of the senior players at the end of season do and they said that both are very good coaches and bounce off each other very well,if that is the case thats god enough for me.
