After 30 minutes up to full time, it was actually surprising that we were still watching Swindon! Great passing, Southend couldnt get the ball, and the crowd was as loud as i've heard it all season.

Just goes to show that when the crowd is given something to cheer about they will.

I hope the corner has been turned. The old addage of we only play well against the top teams didn't ring so true for me tonight - Southend were poor and mostly played hoofball, but we didn't get dragged down to their level like we did against Hartlepool and Cheltennam. We actually bossed the game from start to finish.

If we turn in another performance on Saturday against Hereford then we could just be on the road to staying up.

One swallow doesnt make a summer.

I knew someone would come out with this line. Shudders me to think of Malpas again.

I missed the game but reading thru the thread it sounded like we played well. Well done the town  Cheesy

I thuoght we looked a bit nervy in the first 15 - Amankwanah left his man unmarked to get in a free volley and then they managed to screw up a 2v 1 down our left when HRK went AWOL. After that we were superb in all areas of the park. The first goal was a fantastic pass by Cox to Macca, a great run from him and a cool finish by HRK. The move for the penalty originated from a great tackle by Cox. The 3rd was a good tenacious run from Timlin who was tripping over the ball but did enough to make the defender do a dumb challenge.
The back 4 worked well as a unit. Smith was good apart from one dropped catch. The midfield were functional. Tudor Jones was excellent. Timlin was overall good but when he admires his handy work he's often caught out not tracking back. Paynter was blowing out of his arse again after 30 minutes. Cox had his best game for ages as did Macca.
Overall, we were superb. We tried to play the ball on the deck and out to the wings and it worked instead of constant hoofball.
I'm really looking forward to hereford now.

Yes that's true, but thankfully we grew in confidence there after!

Paynter looked injured for most of the second half.

Awesome first half, especially towards the end.

We sat back in the second half a bit too much for my liking, but we were pretty solid. Show the importance of a clean sheet. If we'd conceded during the second half as per normal town, would have been a different game.

Wait that's a bit retarded isn't it? If something else had happened game would have been different shock.

The town support was a fucking disgrace. 3-0 up, nearly full time and big chunks of the crowd start moaning that they want 4. No pleasing some cunts.

I have a disabled (mentally) who sits behind me who consistantly comes up with footballing cliches to his fat partner that piss me off as they usually arn't relevant.

Tonight my favourite was "if we score a 4th, this place will erupt"

They do my fucking head in. How the hell can a team that plays like that in the first half be in the relegation zone? Same players, same formation, same tactics. One game shit, the next brilliant (sort of). If they can play like that against Hereford we could see double figures.

I still think Phil Smith is shit. He missed a couple of crosses, fucked up a few kicks and his distribution was abysmal.

That second penalty was a bit of a joke, sure he was fouled but his last touch just before was on target for the corner flag.

Marshall is looking a lot better every time I see him. Still not quite up to it though.
