What impressed me was that after about 35 minutes Southend starting getting more ball, but we slowed the game down and kept possession, with the 'oles' coming out. We pretty much played out until half time.

I thought Tudor-Jones was MOM, a monster in midfield and got through a lot of work, but Amankwaah and Greer also both had excellent games. In fact everyone played well.

Other results went our way too.

Overall it is a good confidence boosting win, but 3 points today isn't worth as much as 3 points on Saturday.

Wow im not sure where that performance came from but it was very much welcomed. The first half was the best i've seen us play all season.

Everyone pulled their weight and done what they had to do,quite impressed with OTJ not creative but won a lot of headers and broke a lot of their play up.

Let's hope this the start of something good.

A new 3 year seal with the plastics?

That conjures up some bizarre mental images, odd pets and dubious silicone implant strategies.

Can someone pinch me.... did Southend even want the ball in the first half? What a great performance. Onwards and upwards!

Well that was a pleasent evenings entertainment. I haven't seen as play as well as did in the first half all season. Some of the passing was simply superb. We won pretty much every ball in the centre of the park as well something i haven't seen us do for a long time. Second half was more even but we defended well and kept it solid. A 3rd clean sheet for the season and well deserved.

Onto the players then. Amankwaah was superb. He got forward when he could and won every challenge he could. Kanu and Macca were dangerous and this time effective probably because the 2 CMs were doing a good job. Paynter looked strong and commited and Cox had his best game for a while. Great start to this 4 game crunch period.

Superb. We destroyed them first half, they were chasing shadows.

Second half was not as fluid, but we didn't need it to be. We killed the game, ran the clock down and got the third.

The midfield worked damned hard, closing down and battling. All that was missing in many games was suddenly present tonight.

Not getting carried away, we have a long hard battle ahead. But put that effort in and we'll be OK!

Timlin my MOM.

Can only repeat what everyone else is saying, splendid first half performance, easily best of season, could not quite hit the heights in the second half and did tend to sit back a bit.  But defence dug in deep and kept 'em out, heart in mouth time when Smith fumbled that easy catch but he made amends with a fine save!  For me Timlin was easily MOM, but it is all a matter of opinion!

So who was MOM the match then?
So far we've had: Timlin, Tudor-Jones, Greer and Amankwaah.
I didn't go today, but I think that must sum up how well we must have played.

One swallow doesnt make a summer. We've all gone enough times this season to know we can put in a performance like that one week and put a totally inept one in the following week.

I'm sure I'll get the usual negative, miserable blah blah blah thrown at me but this result is total pointless unless we pick up a minimum of 4 points in our next two games. Hereford home and Northampton away.

As for the game, we were in total control start to finish. Our keeper caught the ball. Our defender won everything in the air, the middle two won everything in the middle and when they didnt have the ball got it back sharpish. Our wingers were direct and caused Southend problem. Our front two worked their bollocks off as usual.

If the game continuted untill midnight - they still wouldnt have troubled us.

I liked Tudur Jones, thought he did a good job in there with Timlin. Defence was awesome and when we had that long spell of possession we were brilliant.

But it's all pointless if we can't beat Hereford on Saturday!
