to be fair the lino probably wasnt watching,and if its first appointment,the ref was probably just gona say "look im ref,ive made the decision i dont want to change it cos we'l both look like tits"

As I understand it, the ref was ex Prem. I say Ex because he was kicked off for being too arrogant. Your mate would have had no chance as a new asst't.

refs never been in the prem, and the linos were both experienced, as was the fourth official.

The linesman only ever contradicts the ref when hes closer. If the ref is closer (as last night) the linesmand can't really go against what he says unless the ref obviously didn't see or something.

But it was a mental decision. Nobody including their players and fans thought it was a penalty. Im still pissed off about it.
