I have read the thread regarding the performance of our currrent Board in full and am amazed that the originator of the thread has been banned from the forum when only the responses to a reasonable question have been abusive and nasty.
The originator did in my view respond in a positive manner to the critics but was then vilified for not answering every post covering about six pages before being banned!!
Surely we are not yet a police state and should be able to question the direction being taken to achieve success for STFC on and off the pitch?
I am unsure if this thread will be allowed to continue but if it is please comment.
It was me who banned him.
As others have pointed out people go on the wind up all the time, but it's normally for a bit of a laugh. Gasha was doing it for no other reason than to stir up angry responses.
One of the reason's it annoyed me is that I sometimes think that the TEF
can have a bit of no criticising the new board blind spot, I was hoping that gasha's thread could help provoke a bit of debate on the subject. Yes the straight out one line abusive comments didn't help much, but it became clear pretty quickly it was these that this Gasha dude was interested in getting
Gasha wasn't banned for his opinions of the new board, I'm not convinced he really gives a shit either way, he was clearly just here to wind people up, and not in the fun fishing way that we sometimes play with around here.
I even went to quite a lot of lengths to give him the chance to keep up a good bit of discussion on the subject, he really didn't seem interested though.
Herthab's right in a way. The TEF normally does a pretty good job at moderating itself with the shouting down of the retards approach, but I'm not sure that works with things like Fitton, when we can be a bit blindly one sided.
Can we stop all this "I know if this thread will be allowed" or the "I might be banned for this but" bollocks? I rarely ban anybody, and it's not once been because they had a point of view that I disagreed with. I rarely lock or delete threads, in fact I can only think of one time I have. I even let personal abuse go, one of the things you have to accept when you don't use the internet to hide behind veil of anonymity.
Just for completion here's what I posted on the mod bit straight after I banned him. I guess it's easy to over think these things after the event.
Did I do the wrong thing banning him?
He did start some good debate about the current board, but when he started ignoring answers to his questions and then asking the same ones over and over again. Other people didn't help with there immediate dismissal of his initial points, but then he didn't help himself either. I'm not saying he's wrong because he was in the minority, but if you're going to be "controversial" then surely you should at least attempt to back yourself up?
I offered him a chance to back up his opinions on the current regime a bit better, and he just selectively quoted a different bit of my post. He didn't seem to have any interest in responding/debating to other peoples posts.
Quickly covering the Freedom of Speech, Police State bollocks: I don't think the TEF has ever claimed to be some bastion of democracy and freedom. In fact it was set up with the intent to get away from the mongs who were very quickly ruining an unmoderated thisis forum. So in a way it was set up with the idea of exclusion from the off.
Lastly. That's pretty much all I have to say on the whole fucking thing. I think it's nice of me to go to these lengths to justify myself as it is. Unless anybody's got some really interesting new light to shed on the subject then please fuck off.
