If the are competing OF then no.

But otherwise plenty of 'chats' will be had.

I have to agree with BR 100% on this.

tactics are one of the most fundamental parts of the FOOTBALL MANAGER game, you should do them yourself. what kind of a manager doesn't choose his own tactics? a cheating one is who.

If the are competing OF then no.

But otherwise plenty of 'chats' will be had.

i'll ask again and i want a one word answer.

do you think that 'real life' managers tell each other their exact formations, tactics and individual player instructions?

then you're wrong too, but i'll let you off because you admitted to being shit at the game.

i can understand if you've got a great squad but are getting dismal results, that borrowing some proven tactics and adapting them to your team is a useful way of getting to grips with the tactics engine.

but unless its going really badly its much more fun and satisfying to tinker yourself. yes it can be very frustrating at times but persevere and you'll soon get there.

I admit I am really crap at 2009, I created many of my own tactics in 2008 with varying results but on 2009 I just cannot find a balance at any club I have tried to manage, from Man City, Derby, Swindon, Luton, Wrexham and Team Bath.

I seem to get great results for 2 games then 4 games of crap result, much like following Swindon in real life.

I have tried defensive, attacking, flooding the midfield, playing offside and long ball and fast flowing short passing football and nothing had got me the results, it didnt matter if I played with long shots or try to walk the ball in, nothing at all worked for more than 2 or 3 games without vast amounts of tinkering, I want a solid base tactic that I can change to the way I prefer to play, which is 3 at the back.

As soon as I venture away from the 442 I seem to get fucking shite results and let loads of goals in at the back, if anyone has a guide that I can read through that will actually give me some pointers then please do but I just want to win a few games without worrying too much about tactics tinkering and concentraiting on getting decent players in to the club so that I can then generate my own tactics around them as I am used to doing on the previous 7 or 8 versions of FM.

I think I have one downloaded from SI forums, John. It's on my other pc so will sort you out later. I think I got 3 pages in and got bored though, so don't know if it's really much good.

Here you go jj. It's a pretty long read (I haven't bothered yet) but goes into detail about the tactics engine.

I just started a new game as Havant & Waterlooville, requested a parent club and got West Ham who just sent me Fred Sears on a season long loan. Happy days.

Fred Sears is good, well I expect he'll be quality at that level. He's scored quite a few for me in league one.

I managed to create a fairly decent tactic, then spent about 10 games tinkering with it and it's gone downhill.

I don't think my players are good enough to give too many individual instructions to. I suppose that's realistic for league one.

Amen to that brother.

I got Oxford up from the Blue Square in my first season, just. But couldn't find a tactic which would work with my revamped League Two side, until I read your post and simplified things. Works a treat now, with two wins from my first two league matches and a narrow defeat to Watford in the League Cup. Last season Newcastle got relegated from the Premiership  Soapy Tit Wank

check my bad side

so cheers for the tactic cheats si.

Haha no worries.

Incidentally, I just reverted back to my first tactic, I'm now scoring for fun. Conceding the odd goal, but I'm starting to control games more now.

Think I will have to work out how to improve it overall, rather than fucking it up and tinkering with individual areas.

*Pedantry* How can Swansea be the 'defending' champions when they are not even in the division to defend their title? *Pedantry*

And what is a "Shut-out" on one of the stats screens?
