Cox is far from the finished article yet, a season of good form, and not blatant misses (like he suffered from last season in places) would attract interest though.

Good luck to the lad.

Let's be honest, Are a club like Liverpool really going to come and look at a League One striker??? Not likely.

probably not but i don't think thats the point. the lad is just voicing a dream.

i'd love to have been Alan Mac at Wembely in 1990, or Danny Invincable at home to Posh etc
thats my dream so he's sharing his.

i think it's good he wants to play to the best of his ability and then move on to a larger club. maybe he can move with Swindon like parkin wanted too.

I think Corr and Paynter would be our first choice pairing anyway, so see ya, don't forget to close the door behind you.  That kind of attitude stinks - he should be saying he wants to play at a higher level, preferably with Swindon...  Thought he was very poor against Cheltenham Saturday - he needs to get his head out the clouds and concentrate on his game if he wants to stay in the Swindon team, let alone play in the Champions League.

Indeed, but we were discussing Thorne earier this week, he basically was angling for a move, so scored a few eye catching goals, and when he'd sorted it, gave up on trying.

Cox now allows himself to be seen in this light...

Now Parkin, was the model, he got his biggish move up a level, qaudrupled his salary etc, but you'll not find a single town fan begruding him what he got.

Cox in "footballer dreaming of playing higher league football for more money and the team he has supported since being a kid Shocker"  Doh

To say he is not our first choice striker is a joke  Huh?, the only thing he has done wrong is to openely say what all the players are thinking. Not one of them would not jump at playing for a higher league team it is the reality of being a third tier football team.

Sure all players want to play at a higher level, but Cox is at this level for a reason, if he wants higher then he has to gain it...that comes from getting respect, from team mates and fans....this sort of statement shows a marked lack of respect.

i kno what your saying Paul thats how most storys are made, but the lad actually stated the team he wants to play for!
OK, so he said "Yeah that would be great. I'd love to play for Liverpool one day". I hardly think he was "issuing a come and get me plea to Benitez"

If I was manager I'd have Ben Joyce in on Saturday...

I guess we can all be grateful that you're not then.

I can't quite get my head round your outraged reaction to this. It sounds like you're looking for an excuse to get on your high horse.

A young player is asked about his ambitions and says it's to play top flight football and Champions League football and has a dream of playing for the club he supported as a kid. What the fuck did you expect him to say?

Christ some of you should find a sense of proportion.

After talking to many Reading fans at the backend of last season, they were amazed that Coppell let him go so cheaply, he was not Premiership standard last year but asked by Reading to play in other competitions he equipped himself well, he is only a young lad and looks to me like the type of striker who will improve year by year.
So I think he will make it to the top league in the next three or four years.
I agree totally with you Reg about his 'marked lack of respect' to mouth off in this way after just two league games this season. If he starts missing the target the fans here could easily turn on him (just like Cureton).

Defenestration is more your throwing out of a window, than pushing through.

Think it was quite popular in the Middle Ages, to defenestrate people from high up castle turret windows.

Isn't defenestration confirming that someone's bollocks (more than 80%) will be cut off? Perhaps by crashing through a window?

Cox is by far our best striker at this time, he's energetic, a real goal threat, over his defenders like a rash, must be a nightmare to play against!  To say Corr and Paynter are first choice is craaazy.

OH FFS!

Are some of you people actually naive enough to think that what happened here is that young Mr Cox sat back after playing three league and cup games and thought "I know I'll hold a press conference to announce my intention of scoring a few goals for Swindon this season and then signing for Liverpool in January, let Rafa know I'm up for it" ?

A reporter working on the same fucking basis as just about ALL of you fucking lot, and go back to the threads covering the Tranny and QPR games and you'll see the comments, made the assumption that the kid will probably get looked at by higher level clubs this season and ASKED HIM A QUESTION about what his ambitions are, which he answered honestly.

He's never made it a secret that he's confident he can play at a higher level and that he saw the move here as a step down to allow him to make a step or steps back up at a later date.

Have you people actually read the quotes:

"He said: "I am always looking to go up a league. I want to test myself at the highest level I can. If I can keep knocking in goals and performing well then an opportunity will soon come up for me to go to the next level."

"Scoring goals is what will make the manager keep choosing me, so that's what I have to keep doing. I want to prove my worth as a player."

That sound to me like a player that is prepared to work and do the job he's paid for and is hoping to get opportunities to progress his career as a result.

It's not like he's doing a fucking Ronaldo for fuck sake.
