I want more than just effort and hard work - Pook gives us that. I want to see a willingness to try to play football properly, and judging by the Cardiff friendly Malpas could get the team doing that. Whether we are succesful or not, I don't think it will be boring this season.

When I refer to effort and hard work I mean in the vein that you say, an effort to play the right type of football when needed.

In terms of fans getting behind the team, I think its got worse since Fitton took over. We just got used to being terminally bankrupt and usually terminally shit. Shocked me how lazy the crowd were for the Cheltenham game. Yes, the team had thrown away any sort of play off chance. But it really was eery. The fact that weve always lived close to the edge financially has provided a lot of motivation for supporters in the past.

I dont think anyone need worry about the crowd not encouraging McNamee, I think everyone has been won over. There are two players who are going to get it in the neck if they dont perform this season. One is JPM, who if he gets stick, I wouldnt be too bothered at all. But I think if the crowd get on Paynter's back then it might really hurt him and kill off his career here. He works really hard for us, and he needs to have the confidence to shoot whenever he see's an opportunity.

See I don't agree with this point of view.  Up watching Hibs on Sat made me realise how good it is to see players trying things.  Shiels was running his heart out playing some lovely balls throught the boro defence.

I see McNamee's step overs as the same, he's trying to beat the man, okay so his final ball may have been shocking, but me applauding his attempt shows encouragement, and hopefully him hearing the crowd not get on his back for a shite final ball, but applaud his previous work will make him attempt it again, next time his final ball maybe a killer.

That's what support is, try focussing on the positives for a change.
Calm down Jan - I make one slightly less than pessimistic point and all of a sudden I don't know how to support my team? Fair enough the lad was trying things, and yes the stepovers were good. I wasn't suggesting we should slate him for his bad cross. My point was more to do with the fact that had he not done the stepovers but whipped in a delightful ball that was headed wide he would have got no credit. And I agree with you about the through ball straight to a centre back, they can often be verging on brilliance. I just think people are impressed by the wrong things sometimes that's all.
