It's not a million miles off the Flitcroft season - where we only had two central midfielders and aimed to bypass them (Dunne and Linganzi - likely one of our worst midfields in terms of on the ball technique). His team were awful to watch, but you could see the idea - get it forward and then see if four forward players could score some goals. I think this team is a bit better than that technique wise, but the evidence is that it can be just as bizarre to watch. It looks bereft of any flow when watching. Holloway's recruitment certainly seems to support it.
They even had Harry Smith up front, albeit he didn’t know how to head a ball back then.

The fee is in somewhat reasonable to accept territory but the concern based on history is that it won’t be reinvested properly, we’ll stick all our eggs in the Princewill basket to cover the loss and we get Walsall’ed (or Swindon’ed to be honest) in Jan and he’s recalled.
Been mentioned before the immense impact Smith has on this team and how hard that will be to replace. They may well turn a corner this time (if it’s accepted) and replace adequately but based on history, you wouldn’t be blamed for finding that unlikely.

Moonraker saying “believed to be in the region of £320,000 up front“ - that is a lot of money to turn down for a 30 year old with 1 year left on his deal. Just depends on how we replace him which I don’t trust us to do properly.

That fee would cover 2 really decent league 2 players on approx £3000 a week.
It would also force us to try and play some football again.
I love Smith, but with one year left and his age, you must be getting close to reluctantly accepting a bid soon.
Edit: Anonymous77 pretty much had my same line of thought!

£320,000 up front for a player who has scored 15+ goals in just one season? No brainer. He has been brilliant for us, but if (and that’s a huge if) the money is reinvested properly, the positives outweigh the negatives.

We won't reinvest it. I don't want Clem to have any money. You don't sell your top scorer if you want to be successful.
Happy for him to see out his contract and for the board to get nothing.

Horsens look to have US money behind them. Carlisle Capital. This could have legs I guess. £300k ish for a 30 year old.

Financially in theory £320k up front for a 30 year old journey man L2 striker in the last year of his contract is a good deal. If a decent % of the money gets reinvested in the playing budget.
It won’t - the playing budget won’t see any of it. The football club won’t see any of it. It’ll go straight back out the clubs accounts into the mysterious black hole that is admin expenses. Making the whole thing utterly pointless with regards to the actual football club.

As has been said any funds won’t be reinvested into the playing squad anyway so best he stays put

The team sheet released 75 minutes prior to kick-off tomorrow will speak volumes. No Smith in the squad would obviously indicate "Sayonara, Harry", whereas Smith starting should indicate either more dosh is to be extorted, or a move ain't going to happen as it is eventually Harry's decision.
My gut feeling is that depth charts have been scrutinized with prospects having already been identified. I recall Tommy Jenkins being signed as a "replacement" for Don Rogers, as well as Elliot Benyon being signed to "replace" Charlie Austin. Both of those transactions resulted in the club going 180 degree in the wrong direction.
