Depends where you are in Jan. Smith is decent at this level, for the way he plays. Though I question his character, consider all the stupid sending off last season.
However given our ambition should be league one, I would onyl sign players to long term contracts that are good enough in that league. For me Smith does not meet that criteria.

I did question Smith’s attitude, particularly with the Barrow sending off for the elbow, the petulant reaction to being subbed and the Bycroft shove at the MK game but I feel that Holloway has got through to him and harnessed his shithousery into a net positive for the team. He is arguably in the best patch of his career and his assets extend beyond his decent recent run in front of goal. I think we would be mad to sell him and by all accounts he seems settled in the area (Chippenham I believe) with a young family so I think he will want to stay. That said we should ensure any contract offer is decent enough to avoid his head being turned.

You can't realistically do that though as players good enough for league 1 will need league 1 wages or perhaps even a little more to drop down. For the vast majority of the last decade we've been in the 4th tier, let's get the fuck out and worry about next year's squad then.

*all* the sending off? you mean the one? Yes, let's just stick everybody on 1 year contracts then complain when we lose the playoff final we don't have a squad again next year. thankfully you aren't in charge of the recruitment

You only tie people to long term contracts that match your long term ambition. Very simple. Perhaps too tricky for some to understand though.

I was at the Melksham game, and within 5 mins he had got himself in a strop and started play acting. In a friendly! He's a good player at this level, and yeah we dont want him to leave for free. But i wouldnt be giving him a 3 year contract.

So just the one red then. I really don't understand your point at all. If we get promoted with Harry Smith, and then decide he's not good enough for League One, we can just sell him, or another club will take over his contract. If we end up promoted it's very likely he'd be a pivotal part of it, so there won't be a lack of interest.

Don’t shoot the messenger but a work colleague claims we’ve ’sounded out’ Ched Evans who is a free agent having been released by Preston.
He’s 36, physical striker who’d be an able back up for Smith you’d think. Has played most if not all of his career up north so take it with a pinch of salt.

Ched Evans' carreer was interupted by a conviction which was subsequently turned over, which involved confinement in the slammer for a couple of years. Signing him could be a PR issue for the club, but Clem living in the nation founded for convicts may not have an issue with that. Ched was player/coach at Preston, so you might have expected him to sign on as a coach at his advanced age.

Sobowale off to St Mirren
They'll be dancing in the streets of Mirren with that signing. Shame, I liked Sobowale, but clearly Hollway didn't.

Yes apparently off to the Scottish league, he has never been able to follow simple instructions so I fully get Holloway letting him go.

I think you and i both predicted his exit, so this was very much expected. Also creates room for other recuitment.

Sobowale seemed a good character and was an incredible athlete but from a footballing basis he doesn’t offer what McGregor or Snowdon does on the ball especially in attack.

No final ball and always making mistakes that he had to recover from with his speed.
Despite all that I actually liked him, good luck to him in Scotland.
