I know it's going Back a bit but has nobody mentioned Rod Thomas. Bert Head paid £500 for him from Gloucester.

Only captained the league champions after leaving Swindon as well as earning something like 50 caps for Wales during his career.  Lightening fast especially for a defender and I would say largely underated.

Is Tabor going to be there Monday then?

We’ll hopefully find out monday. There were rumours he was going on trial at Crawley too. Not sure if legitimate tho.

Although Coyne was signed from non league, if I recall correctly he had been in the Manchester United youth team which was how Macari knew of him.

Does Kirkman count as a signing from non league given that the Welsh league is probably below National League standard?
I remember Peter Coyne getting a hat trick for England Schoolboys v West Germany in 1974. I remember it as it was live on TV and it was such a big deal to have any kind of live football in those days. Apart from that it was the Cup Final and a few (not all) England games. Hard to imagine now..

Recalling this makes me feel very old!

I remember a sports night special on a Wednesday night showing England v West Germany in the Euros (when it was a knockout until the semi finals) and the Germans winning (surprise), but playing in green and Gunter Netzer scoring

He'd been in Northampton's youth setup so had some formal training at least.  I expected at least a player on the fringes of a match day squad member from him tbh but he obviously wasn't even up to that.  Oh well, cheap punt, no harm done.

They fucked Banbury about with that deal, promised a season loan, sent Harry Parsons for a month and then called him back!
It didnt really help we played him in a totally different position to what he was playing at Banbury either.

He was Brackley POTY in their promotion this season to the National League

If Reg was on here he would be telling us about Tony Gough who I remember being signed from Bath at the grand old age of 30|31, he was okay for a season or so before he went to Hereford who he captained to that famous victory.

My one and only memory of him in a swindon shirt was crashing the bar with a diving header. Away at Mansfield perhaps.

Can’t remember when it was but at one point he had every single leak about us. Wonder who was leaking it to him

Based on nothing at all I reckon it's about Ameen. Probably trying to start a 'bidding war' (even though they can sign him for nada)

Other than Austin our hit rate on non league punts must be spectacularly low?
We always used to get some great strikers from non league, Peter Coyne, Colin Gordon, Jimmy Quinn, Dave Moss and Bryan Wade to name a few.

BTW I posted this before reading back Smiley
