Port Vale opinions are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Apparently he's had a bust up with Darren Moore and gone a bit AWOL.

Went on paternity leave after his 5th child and not been back or something

I'm guessing that Barden's loan won't be continued now?

Yeah you'd think that would be Barden going back.

Anything is better than the two jokers we have currently. Looking forward to the defenders having some confidence in the guy between the net again.

Bycroft is 21, 22 isn’t he - huge potential + a town supporter.

23, but yeah baby in keeper terms.

There is a good keeper in there with Bycroft if he can get commanding his area and crosses coming in sorted out. He's a talented shot stopper. Hopefully being a #2 he can work on that sort of thing with the pressure off.

A decent winger back in his day and saw him play against the Town a couple of times.

He's young and in keeper terms inexperienced - hopefully with an experienced goal keeper it may help him in the long run having someone to learn from

Some Ripley stats from Sofascore in L2 this season:

2nd highest SofaScore rating across all L2 GK’s.
Most accurate passes per game.
Most key passes per game.

Stats aren’t everything but much better than the current two.

A bit tough on Bycroft, his distribution was spot on versus Carlisle on Saturday, in particular for the first two goals.

Conversely he's had some howler moments, e.g. v Tranmere.

But I think he's a great prospect, and though it'll hit him a bit having an older head around might help him develop

Yep, he has had a mixed time, but the Tranmere goal was a fluke, he positioned himself correctly.  I believe that even an international goalie wouldn't have stopped that.  On Saturday, he looked the part except being slow to gather the ball being shielded by defenders.  He needs an old head to learn from, so good all around except for Dan Barden who is also in need of mentoring being too similar to Bycroft in age and experience.
