All fair points. I think the strong suspicions of financial malpractice and people with non-footballing motives for pushing transfers will always follow this regime though. It’s why pessimism follows us - there is no trust, and a bucket load of resentment that the people in charge want something different than we do.

Yep that's ok if we get someone better to replace him who will be on the same wages and is a give away. Salford must see something in him and they're top 3

Is it possible that Salford need a left back and we don't?

You understand that when a manager thinks the squad is too big he's fucking unlikely to replace every player he releases right?

He released him because he had to get out to get others in (presumably Nichols). That's essentially what he said in the it's conference.

It's still a suprise to me we didn't get a nominal fee.

But I'm not losing sleep over it. I might if someone like Wright goes

Who do you mean by "this regime"?

I thought all the footballing side of the management above Holloway was history?

I'm assuming you're not one of the people on here thick enough to think Morfuni himself (with a net worth of $200m and a multi-million pound business) bought Swindon to in some way scam money from tuppeny happeny 4th division transfer dealings.

I'm pretty sure most fans understand the rational behind the transfer of Longelo.

My main 'issues' are the continual short termism of our squad building and when the revolving door gets to the exit, ultimately we don't *seem* to get the best deal that we can.

I get that Holloway needs to trim the squad and Longelo was one of these but he was under contract for 18 months and was an asset. The club is absolutely fucked financially so surely we have to get at least a nominal fee? I totally get the benefit of getting a wage off the books, but thinking more holistically us giving players away for nada to promotion chasing teams puts us in a terrible negotiating position - suspect this has been the case for ages so the point is probably moot.

What is positive, is that Holloway seems to have a strategy and he's proving that despite his ramblings, knows what he's doing. Will be taking stock on 1st Feb where I reckon we'll be in a better position than where we are currently.

If you think Morfuni is worth even a quarter of that you are living on a different planet.

"Worth"

There are some very real issues at this club that need addressing, Longelo being moved on is not one of them.  He's nowhere near our best 11 and maybe not even a strong bench player.  If Holloway can bring in someone in place of his wage then fine by me.  Not everything is malpractice, can't believe the storm this has brewed.

Agree with this 100%. If we look at all the players we have given away for various reasons (MacDonald, Kinsella, King, Kolkolo, Longelo, probably others I’m forgetting), we probably could have got small fees for some of them. Even if it’s only £10k-£30k each that would add up. Giving players away to teams in the same league (including a team that is better than us) absolutely stinks and shows a total lack of business acumen especially when there is no guarantee of a replacement.

This 100%.

Just disappointed we didnt include a sell on fee or percentage of next transfer for him.

I mean I get the notion that Longelo won’t be a massive loss & doesn’t fit into a 433

When did it become so bad that we can only really afford to have players for one formation in the squad? Yeah Longelo doesn’t fit in a 433 but where is the harm in carrying an attacking wing back so you can go 352 (as we have done recently) or 442.

Just because Holloway has a preferred formation doesn’t mean that’s all he will ever play & the only formation we should recruit for.

As for the fee or lack of - I’d love to know over the last couple of years how many players under contract we’ve let go for absolutely nothing compared with other lower league clubs. I could be totally wrong but I don’t imagine it’s a common practise.

I think the Munki needs to take less caffeine in the morning and probably stay away from forums that trigger his tantrums.

I didn't say it had to be another left back did I?And also, it's been said that it"frees up wages."Totally missed my point but, hey, it made you feel more "knowledgeable" than me , so worth it I guess

I’ll not get into your cheap digs, but I’m surprised that anybody could think (a) that the revenue that Morfuni’s construction businesses makes in any way equates to profit of the group as a whole. The two things are separate. (b) that there is some possibility that keeping Zavier Austin and Adam Hart involved in this club is cause for concern as to our financial governance and (c) that even if Morfuni was incredibly wealthy, that he is immune from being involved in deals that are not in the clubs interests. Honestly.

I think this has gone past the Longelo chat. I can live with him leaving, and we’ll hardly notice it. This started because of the trend of transfers in and out in no time at all, in a way that we’ve not seen before, and it merits discussion.
