I’m personally not interested in ex players coming back on loan.

Milner?
I guess Bob's point seems more of a lack of interest in loans generally, the "used to play for us" bit being a bit of a distraction? I can see the point, but what's the difference really between a 12 month perm deal and a season long loan?
The only genuinely long contracts we've handed out in recent years were to Aguiar (who promptly got bombed out) and Wakeling (who got sold 7 months later, but at least that one probably counts as a success.

Not particularly for or against former players coming back on loan but context is the key.
Minturn here for 6 months, making the odd clanger that costs us (as expected at his age) and developing as our player that we either benefit from a better fee or better player is one thing.
Minturn back here for 6 months on loan doing the same thing and then going back to Boro is a different thing.
If he goes would rather we just wished him well and put our time into developing Pharrell Williams.
Likewise for Wakeling.

We’ve been over this with Wakeling. We are the only club that can loan him. If Peterborough do want him out on loan that leaves us in a strong bargaining position. We could effectively get Wakeling back here for free. Not sure why we’d turn our noses up at that. Minturn is a different story because is Middlesbrough did sign him & wanted to loan him out - they could loan him out elsewhere if they didn’t play him.

I'm not really fussed about ex-players coming back on loan (I can see pros and cons), but in this case I don't personally think a sell with a loan back benefits us at all. If we had a proper squad Minturn would be either on the bench or out on loan for development and so if he goes, I would rather just 'take the money and run'. If we're now going to 2 CBs rather than the 3, Minturn isn't quite as important as he was when Flynn was in charge. Pharell Johnson basically becomes Minturn now.
I would hope that we could use some of the money received for Minno to properly shape the squad, not just for this season, but thinking about next season as well.

The thing about Wakeling is that he doesn't really offer anything different that we already have. Wakeling gives you pace and energy which is covered by Glatzel and RHM now. (fully aware they are injury prone) Ideally we'd want more of a target man presence to offer something different and to give Charlie a rest now and again. You could utilise Wakeling in the wide positions I suppose, depends how Gunning is looking to play. I'm not against Wakeling coming back at all, I'm just not convinced we 'Need' him really.

I completely agree with this. Last year Wakeling, RHM and Austin all failed to gel together in any sort of formation. Although a loan deal is the easy option, which probably makes it attractive for us. I would much rather see a different type of forward with some physicality to them.

I mean in the long term it doesn’t offer us much but short term he’d be the best striker at the club.

Based on what? His extensive number of appearances for Peterborough He was fourth choice when he left, behind Austin, Hepburn-Murphy & Young. If he's improved that much being coached at Peterborough, why would they want him to come back & get worse, which I'm assuming the argument is with Austin & Hepburn-Murphy. Is he better than our current fourth choice option, clearly yes. Is he going to get more minutes for us than Peterborough, probably. As you say if he comes back without us having to pay any wages, it would be a no brainer, but I'm assuming that Peterborough aren't stupid enough to do that so even if we only have to pay a loan fee that money could be better used elsewhere

Based on football. He wasn’t 4th choice when he left. He started our first league game of the season. Young only came into the team because Wakeling & RHM got injured. Austin is past it. Could we get more out of him with different play / formation - maybe remains to be seen. RHM is quick & injured. The Liverpool kid is an unknown quality currently. How is Wakeling not an improvement on those?

That's re-writing history a bit. When he left we had played 6 games, and the Crewe game aside (where he was subbed at half time), his only other start was in the EFL Trophy with Kanu. He was clearly behind Austin, Young & RHM when he left. Whether he is better now is subjective, but as he hasn't played much (if any) competitive football its difficult to prove

I think Wakelings a decent player and as he can only play for us or Peterborough you'd think we'd be able to get a cheap loan considering he isn't playing for them. No brainer for me to add some depth, even if it's off the bench for the last 30.

The amount of Wakeling conversation in here is quite frankly ridiculous. He doesn't offer what we need right now, which is an alternative forward to Austin, who is physical and can hold the ball up.
My larger concern is how much Gav is in Clems pocket saying we only need 1 or 2 more, which is complete shit.
