Under the right tutelage,Minturn will be a decent player I reckon. Obviously under Flynn he went backwards like several others

Place him closer to the Ben Tozer end of the Spectrum than the Sean Morrison end. If the money is good take the deal

He’s 20, he’s only going to get better. He’s a decent footballer for a CB, too.

Minturns issue is he can’t defend, which is quite important for a defender.
Unless you play under Michael Flynn of course.

20 years old. Good height, good build and comfortable/confident on the ball.
Give him elite coaching and we'll be talking about Minturn in the same way as we talk about Twine within a few years.
...and probably arguing over non-stories like a future club owing us money too.

Minturn has potential. I just think we’ve done a poor job with his development.
Over one of the last two seasons he needed a lengthy loan spell in the division below where he would play every week. That would have helped him loads.
Then coming in and playing in a defence that’s awful, disorganised & has no leader will have done him no favours.
If he’d come in next to even Baudry- he’d probably look better for it. He’s no world beater but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a decent career at a level above ours. Although being at Supermarine in 2 years wouldn’t shock me either…

Well you say that and of course you’re entitled to your opinion as is everyone else, however, playing devils advocate here if Middlesborough are after him then I’d suggest they think otherwise. Not doubting there is room for improvement and going to a championship club with their set up he should. Where he’s at in say five years is open to speculation. A parallel situation is matey boy whose name escapes me is happily knocking them in at Luton but couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo for us. There have been others who fall into a similar frame. No doubt Ebenezer Morfuni will bite anyone’s hand off as he has plenty of mouths to feed. Reminding me of a bird bringing a beak full of grubs back to the nest and half a dozen yellow lined chicks mouth suddenly open up from nowhere.

I expect if Championship clubs are seriously looking at him - it’s because of his physical attributes & his footballing ability more so than his defending.
It’s probably easier to (try) and teach a good footballer to defend than a good defender to play football.

If Minturn went to Boro, I could see him being a Ben Tozer type and eventually dropping down from the Championship more than Sean Morrison who made a career at that level.

Clubs higher up the food chain want CBs who are good on the ball and can play out. Minturn can do both. It’s telling we are all clamouring for giraffe-type CBs who can boot and head and occasionally get a goal from a corner.

I really don't want to bag on a young player from our youth academy who I think has a bit about him, but should be out on loan - but I'm really not sure Minturn's *confidence* on the ball is matched by his actual ability on it. I'm certainly not confident when I see him on the ball, and he's turned himself into trouble plenty of times.

Fair but that could say more about the midfield options available (or lack there of) for him to pass to…

That's fair, as is his decision making probably looking better if he was next to a Gordon Greer (as mentioned before, the Scott Cuthbert paradox). There is always a small chance that professional football scouts have an eye for a player better than mine, I just think if we could get money for Minturn and reinvest (I know, I know) I'd go that way.

So many variables with players. I personally think he has something. We haven’t maximised his development opportunities and being thrown into this team hasn’t helped. Guess, we can judge him with hindsight in 10 years time!

I think there is a player in Minto for sure but hes too raw to be starting every game, Boro will have top quality defensive coaches and he will only get better.
I think he can defend and head but not to the ability we need to be able to rely on and he can dribble and pass and is a big unit, all the attributes needed, he makes silly mistakes though and is often caught in possession when dribbing out of defence coasting us goals. That can be coached out of his game I am sure.
If its a good up front fee and a large sell on clause then fair play and I would bite their hand off, Minturn is not what we need to be relying on at the moment defensively.
I do also wonder if its selling off the family jewels as it were while they have value rather than waiting to see if we can improve him with our own coaching for a bigger fee.
I think its a win win situation all round, Boro get a player they can progress and we get a nice fee and a sell on. As others have said hes very similar level and quality as Ben Tozer was when he left for Newcastle, at an age it could still go either way but I think he has some good qualities.
