Nixon's got a Swindon story tomorrow. Assuming it's transfer related.

Probably something boring to do with Lewis Ward.

There was definitely a Sunday League team called AFC Swindon at some point and there is an AFC Swindon vets team.

I remember being told waaay back when, like early 2000s that someone had started a Sunday League team and called it Swindon City - so if Swindon became a City and the football wanted to change their name they’d have to buy the rights off this Sunday League team - how legit any of that ever was, fuck knows

Yeah I remember seeing a Swindon City as well.

Is Power back? Used to be his only source.

Another classy player plagued by long term injuries - ACL and groin.

I guess if we're - at best - midmarket, and want players who will improve us, injury prone players are one way of getting it - a Zeki Fryers or a Jordan Lyden type is no doubt cheaper that a plays-every-game-every-season Paul Caddis or Jonathan Douglas, and will end up playing further down the pyramid than their talent would suspect.

One of the reasons we got Jonny Williams - who we then turned into an every weeker. That's the gamble, but I guess for every Williams you get a Devine.

It is, but honestly, how many signings have we made in the last say, five years that didn't feel like gambles? This season's most "solid, experienced, should be good enough" signing was Kinsella, and that looked like it had gone horribly wrong until recently.

The skill is getting (most of) the gambles right, rather than not gambling at all, unless you're playing with a Wrexham-sized budget.

The Wellens signings made sense - they were, in the main, proven talents from above but with those injury concerns.  The difference now is we are signing unproven talent with injury records, or unproven talent full stop.

And about the same in League One, then lost a season to injury. He's a very similar profile to Zeki Fryers, no? If anything a bit more experienced/less consistently knacked.

And if the gamble does pay off they get sold on to one of our 'parent' clubs like Milton Keynes for £25k profit
