2 permanents to the club "nobody wants to sign for". Not bad

Context:

A 19yr old unwanted by his former Premier League Academy with no first team appearances

A guy who has a handful of appearances for Barnsley in roughly two years due to suffering a huge ACL injury. Previously played for Cork and St Mirren. Probably part of his rehabilitation to get game time whilst here - oh and he's on loan.

Both are probably at the lower end of cheap/nominal. Again, that's ok...if complimented by some proper signings. Hopefully Johnson isn't overwhelmed by the environment and responsibility he'll be thrown into and hopefully McCarthy stays fit.

It all still feels like gambling though imo.

11 defenders at the club now - suggests we're either playing 3 at the back still or FBT/UGM are going to be full backs and Hutton is off.

CB options would be McCarthy, Johnson, Clayton (injured), FBT, UGM  Brewitt & Minturn. Far cry from having Khan at CB three weeks ago...

Expect a back four on Saturday. with UGM and FBT playing as full backs, the new signings at CB and Chas free to play up front and not help defend the box for entire games.  Maybe, 4:3:3 -

Bycroft
UGM
Johnson
McCarthy
FBT
khan
Devoy
Kinsela
Glatzel
Chas
RHM

I'd take that, although Shade is probably more likely up top given RHM's lack of match fitness.

It certainly looks better than the past couple of games, but is it really a competent L2 side?  Clearly the new lads could be inspirational, but just looking at that line-up doesn't really inspire thoughts of being able to dominate an opposition or control a game, or see out a 1-0 lead with little concern for example.

To put it another way, Reg would not be a happy chappy with our current options, giving us some sort od deep historical dive into how teams with an average age under 25 fare.

Bristol City seem to have a lot of young players in their team - watched them v Wet Spam last night. Looked pretty good, too. Although the Hammers were awful.
