It's demeaning towards the fans to even suggest that Morfuni has any influence on who we sign. More lies. But the lies can be useful at times to show us what they're trying to hide. That's why I am clinging on to the hope that a sale is in the offing in the new year and Morfuni needs or wants to be here to finalise that. Standing / Keily presumably are the decision makers and beneficiaries of any funds invested in players. Flynn, Hatswell and Jamie Russell there to provide a view and recommendations.

Morfuni is about as much use to football transfer strategy as I would be to a plumbing business.

Based on the Hall interview it doesn't sound like they are very organized ahead of this very important window. Everything is dependent on Clem being in the country in the last week of December.

You would have thought given the gaping holes they have plans in place to pounce quickly in the window. It seems not.

I imagine plans will be tentatively in place - but until we know exactly who will be here but more importantly who won’t be here (Kemp, Young, Khan, Hutton) we can’t make any concrete plans can we?

Surely any prospective new owner would want to keep Young and/or Kemp. Get the fans on board if that was to happen.

God knows, we do seem to attract a certain type, though.

You would assume that Flynn & Co have a list of who they would want to sign, based on who might be leaving.

I'd assumed the Clem bit is about any budget that they have to sign them.

Flynn: I want to sign player X,
Clem: That's too expensive mate you can have a free agent in February

Agree you can’t have one exact concrete plan but you can have a range of contingency plans that cover multiple scenarios. Realistically there should be positional based plans.

E.g if the current squad remains as it is, we need X, Y and Z

If Young leaves and doesn’t return then we have these targets in mind

If Kemp leaves then we have these targets in mind

These lists of targets are filtered on priority and what we can afford budget wise with some options for if extra budget opens up

We have a budget as it stands in this range, subject to change with any player sales

Contingency replacement plans if Hutton and Khan depart.

Everything recruitment wise can change quickly throughout a window but in terms of budget we should have plans in place for what we can afford right now and not have to wait until Clem comes back 4 days before the window to have more concrete discussions on that.

There are some plans that are contingent on current players leaving. However there are some plans, such as the 3 or 4 Flynn knew we were short in August that should be made regardless.

Exactly that.

My point is more that without clear idea of the budget then it’s hard to do that planning. The January window is short, it needs to be attacked properly and quickly so planning for it should be done already, that involves having a clear idea of what we can afford right now if nothing changes. If we’re in a situation where Clem comes back and says “we can’t afford the top 5 options in your lists” then that’s months of wasted preparation (if any has been done) and we’re then in a situation where we have to burn some of that time in the window reassessing options.

It’s obviously not as simple as “we have exactly £X to spend” but you can work out a realistic range for what we can afford right now. Any top targets we have in mind will likely be targeted by other clubs, if we’re playing catch up all window because we didn’t plan adequately then we’re in trouble.

When the crook Power ran the club we all knew shit was wrong behind the scenes, but the guy knew how to run a transfer window to keep some of the fans quiet (outside the Sheridan shit show season when he had already fled to Switzerland). It would seem thats what Clem needs to attempt this window, though i think it too late.

It's sadly based on the premise we would be paying money for a striker, which we know isn't going to happen

Which is why the Wakeling thing just makes too much sense really, he can only play for us and Pboro will want him playing. A good negotiating position.

I'm guessing loan recalls are likely then?  Sad

I think we have to be realistic and expect that both Young and Kemp are likely to have played their last games for us this month. (not sure exactly when the recall timescale is) That's certainly my mindset, and whilst I would love to be wrong, I'm not much of a football fantasist.

A best case scenario I can see is that both players are recalled and sold to L1/Championship clubs,  but we get first option to then sign them on loan for the rest of the season to continue their development before they begin pre-season with their new clubs next season. There is no doubt both players are loving their time at STFC, so if there was any way we could get 1 or both until the end of the season, it would be massive.

With that said, I can't see it.

I concur.

I think if a Champ or L1 clubs are going to sign them it’s going to be for their first team. These aren’t 17/18 year old kids in their first season.
