Because many of our fans still think we are a big club, we aren't.

A Swindon fan on twitter posted a picture of carroll with the stfc hashtag a couple of weeks back and again not long after.
I posted the rumour in here when there was no rumours at all and I thought it was a cracking rumour without any real possibility.

Given the state of the rumours thread this preseason it was nice to actually see a players name in a post.

It’s ridiculous that anyone has ever thought we’ve been a big club in the past. We haven’t! (Not a dig at you)

I think that some of our fans are convinced we have averaged around 9,000 each season from the year dot.

To be honest, comparative to all the other clubs in L1 & L2 - we are big club. There are definitely more clubs that would historically be considered smaller than us.

The issue is - since I’d say Chelsea were taken over in ‘03 size of club has no bearing on anything. The gap in the divisions has got wider, the disparity of tv money has got worse and basically the only way to really compete is by having an owner pump millions maybe even billions of pounds into the playing squad alone - let alone the club.

I expect ‘owner funds’ are now most clubs main source of income which has no correlation to size of club. Back in the day I expect clubs main source of income was gate receipts where if you were a bigger club who had more supporters and thus bigger attendances - you’d have an advantage over the smaller clubs.

Obviously I’m not suggesting we are a massive club but I’d say we are near the top end of club size in the bottom two divisions.

Just ultimately it’s like ‘box entries’ completely pointless…

Which is why FFP is a bit of a joke really and needs to be stricter. There should be a cap on the amount of sponsorship that can count under it if its coming from an owner/affiliate company like that cunt Dale Vince with Forest Green.

Jack Walker's Blackburn might have been the first example, for all that they didn't last long!

Absolutely agree, and dont allow huge bonuses for promotion which can get around any such rules too.

The bigger the clubs fanbase and income from that the more they can spend on wages, was the theory. But its got more loopholes than a Cornish fishermans net.
