Perfection is not attainable

I agree. It's simply unfathomable that we don't have the total squad numbers that Flynn is after by the start of the league season. The end of this week and next are likely to be very busy. Darcy to Crawley makes sense, he'll probably be first name on the team sheet given the dross they have signed  and we free up space and wage to invest properly, starting with 2 experienced centre backs to shore things up back there.
We all hope that to be true mate.

Over the course of the season we sold 4 big earners in Reed, Gladwin, McKirdy and MacDonald too and brought in only 1 big wage earner in Austin as Cain, Brewitt, RHM and McEachran I would think are on lower, inexperienced wage levels with 3 of them being unnatched for at least 6 months previously so you would think we had some budget left over from those sales.

Since May we have lost 16 players in total in Baudry, Harries, Williams, Iandolo, Tomlinson, Massey, Jephcott, Kadji, Parson, Dabre, Cowmeadow, Roberts released or returned to their clubs plus Adeloye, Aguiar, Dworzak and Hart all out on loan.

So far this season we have brought in 2 loans in Mahoney and Kemp.

So we are currently -14 in squad numbers from the end of last season to where we are now, and looking at the squad what is currently fit/left its pretty dire.

Our squad of 19 includes -
Reece Devine (injured, 1 league start)
Ty Shade (injured)
Tom Clayton (injured)
Marcelle Lavinier (possibly injured)

Harvey Fox (0 league starts)
Gavin Gunning (0 league starts for us)
Conor Brann(0 league starts)
Harrison Minturn (3 league starts)

So currently we only have these players fit.

Mahoney (loan)
Brann

Minturn
Hutton
Brewitt
FBT

McEachran
Kemp (loan)
Khan
Cain
Darcy
Fox

Wakeling
Austin
RHM

I was trying to stay positive on this last friday of preseason!

The suggestion for this at the time was that SDM excel sheet was a little broken and part of the reason for the fire sale was to make sure we were still within the financial rules. So not sure we can count those as budget we can now spend, if we shouldn't have spent it then either.

So 19 assuming Darcy doesn’t go.

Based on what Flynn & Hatswell have said that means at least 3 more in, maybe 5 for a squad of 22 to 24.

Based on the speculation that’s Kinsella, an experienced CB and a big lump CF.

Would hope we also get a LB/LWB & another CB

I would say its 17, as Fox and Brann should be excluded. So thats 6-7 gaps and we all know what those are.

1 GK
1 LB
2 CBs
1-2 Midfielders
1 Forward

I think we have all been over the numbers plenty of times at this point.

What PV's analysis shows is just how small our current player wages are with what is on the books, given the number of big spenders shifted in the last year. Hence Flynn and others saying they have plenty of budget to spend.

They just need to get shit done.

Think your maths is slightly out PV, the squad is 18 not including the loaned out players or Fox or Gunning. You've got 19 including the latter two. The gist is right though and whilst we argue over the details, we clearly need between 5-7 first team professional players - loans or permanents.

Transfermarkt haven't listed Gunning for a few weeks now (but did all last season), but do list Fox - which I suspect is where you end up out by one.

So Transfermarkt have 19, I have 18 because I'm not buying that Fox is a first team pro this season until anyone at the club says he is - they didn't even announce that he was being given another year.

That hasn't stopped them multiple times this season!

Maybe there are so many there its difficult to exclude them all (trying to be positive)

I agree no way can Gunning and Fox be considered as 1st teamers. BTW when I just reopened it Gunning had gone as you say but he was there for my 1st opening (oo err missus).

Lets just say we need 6 players in minimum plus maybe mor eloans to cover the injured players too.

I love your positivity mate.

I keep having bouts of positivity go through me, then a few hours later I see the realisation of the squad limitations.
