I expected Hutton to be gone by now to be honest. Yeah he has defensive frailties that need working on but for a RWB with a competent RCB behind him, those assist stats are enough for a league one/ambitious league two team to have a pop.

Despite plenty of speculation maybe there hasn't been any interest for him.

He’s probably in that lower end to mid table League One bracket but those teams have more important areas than RWB to spend money on so you’d be looking at a higher end League One club with the cash to burn on him but his defensive frailties probably means he’s not appealing to those clubs at this stage of the window.

If he was sold I've no idea how much he would go for maybe £100,000 -150,000

If Stockport didn’t already have Knoyle then Hutton would fit fairly well into their system and they’d have the sort of cash for him.

I'm surprised Bristol Rovers or Oxford aren't sniffing around.

Fans really need to get out of this mindset that we wont take acceptable offers for our players

That's not completely it though. I reckon most fans are sensible enough to know we will sell. Everyone has a price.

But it feels to me like we sell as a priority over football at the first sensible offer that makes a profit.

I'm not convinced the amount of time we retain a player feels like we get the most out of them.

maybe it's just me that feels like that.

Very True Batch

Fans need to get out of the mindset we are a big fish in L2 and we can hold out for premium transfer fees

We have an owner who hasn't got the money to enable us
to do that.
We therefore as you say sell a youngster at the first available opportunity at the first sign of a cash offer

If you could use Hutton money to get a LB and RB that together offer at least the 12 assists hutton did then, yes having the variety of attack makes sense.

What makes more sense is keeping hutton and getting a LB that can add to that.

Hutton would be a massive loss in my opinion, not withstanding his defensive weakness.
Agree with that. You can't just dismiss all those assists really. It was a pretty phenomenal amount to be honest

I know you get crap.

But this is the reality we are in now. What it takes to break even.

I can't even call it "wrong", we are where we are. But it's hard to adjust to.

And Clem will come under pressure if we can't find a way to compete somehow

It's not completely it but surely you can tell i don't mean EVERY fan but there is a large element that does. TBH yes you are right and it likely is a prioririty, fans(not all) seem to oblivious to the owner saying time after time that he wants to be self sufficient and that even now they are trying clear up the mess from what they inherited.

This isn't a thank god we have a club and be grateful for what we got post but more of a let's give a club that has been fucked over for 30 years longer than 2 s years to try and rebuild post

I wan't success just as much as anyone but not at the expense of not selling an average league 2 player if the club honestly believe they can replace them

Whether fans trust it is a different matter an argument but the club are telling us every time they can what the objective is both on and off so i suppose it's a case of wait and see

Thing is though they also said we would have a budget capable of building a promotion challenging squad.

Your argument that you can cash in and replace a player with equivalent is fine .

But some will understandably feel short changed if we merely do that and finish mid table.

We are playing what ifs though.

But, club wise, we are a big fish in L2. 2nd highest gates or thereabouts. The fact that at the moment that isn’t being translated  into performance on the pitch is neither here nor there. This is a pivotal season. Another like last season and we’ll drop away until somebody resurrects us and we rise again - as we will.

Sorry

We are not a big fish anymore...

So our gates are relatively  high, will they continue to be that way if the start of the season isn't good....

In terms of attractiveness to players we are not.....

In terms of financial clout we are not.....

We are now a middling L2 team and will continue to be....

Yes Morfuni got rid of Power, but has he hit the resources to push us forward if and its a very big if we manage to get out of L2.

From what I've heard no ,

But you keep believing we are the Man U of L2....

I really hate to admit it but this is how I’m starting to feel a bit too. If we’re competing on a near level financial basis with our league rivals then I can see how a player would find us one of the more attractive options in this league but a player isn’t going to pick us over an offer several hundred a week more from somewhere like Stockport just because we’ve got a big stadium and decent history, that’s the issue with there being 7/8 team financially going for it rather than just a couple.

Also got to remember that for 6 of the last 7 seasons, we’ve been in League Two, maybe before when we’d come down for a season or two we’d stand out but when you stay down here for a larger amount of time, you lose your shine a bit as a big fish down here until you show some intent, especially when there’s other clubs throwing stupid money about.

I’m possibly being overly harsh there and I hate to talk like that because realistically we should be a big fish down in this division but I just don’t see how players can view it like that at the minute. A top level league two player will probably see at least Stockport, Wrexham, Gillingham, Franchise, Notts County and Bradford as more attractive propositions at this moment in time.
