I guess the positive to take from this, even if he goes elsewhere and/or this is just agency talk, is that this is the standard of player we are looking at and trying to get. That quite encouraging for me, even more so if we can sign some of them

I fear you may have used up all of today's "positivity" quota with that mad optimism.   Wink

The problem is with dining at the top table (in terms of Lge 2) for players, is that you might have to wait longer to get them done as they will wait until the very last minute to see what the best opportunity is.  This might mean that we might need to kick off the seaon with an incomplete squad for the first few matches.

Not ideal, and the fans will lose their shit, but it's completely plausable that it might happen.

I’d be in no rush to sell Lavinier unless he had two CBs, two LWBs and a RWB lined up.

Would anyone buy or even take Lavinier on a free with his injury record? If he gets released he might be looking at a pay as you play type of deal.

Surely the majority of clubs are in the same boat though?

As per PV's list - http://thetownend.com/index.php?topic=59639.0

This is my nagging worry. I do get the logic of waiting in an inflated market... but we are the only club in the division not to have made a permanent signing, and most clubs have made five or more. Why are we seemingly so different here? (it's not squad size any more either, we have the second smallest squad size in the division right now).

Is it an inflated market or are the salaries wanted by players the current going rate....

If you want those players you are going to have to pay the going rate.....not wait and hope on the off chance that that player will take wages much lower than the going rate...

Absolutely, are we just not offering a competitive wage or are we just playing the waiting game and hoping players see they wont get better offers elsewhere?

The market is inflated due to some huge hitters financially in L2 but it hasnt stoppped all the other teams making a perm signing or more.

We may not be that attractive to players? word gets around agents that clubs are not willing to pay high wages so we get offered less players?

I am not worried but I am concerned as we have 3 injuries already on a bare thread squad.

The two statements aren't really mutually exclusive - if we think the current going rate won't be the going rate by the end of the transfer window. It's a risky proposition though, assuming that players will get more desperate but clubs won't.

I feel there’s certain levels to it. There’s the Wrexham’s, Stockport, Gillinghams throwing around stupid money at the top, then there’s still 6-7 clubs underneath that who aren’t going as crazy but are probably still going to offer more wages than us.

So if that’s true then we need to wait for a top league 2 player to get through 7-8ish clubs offering more money than us before getting to a stage where they’re happy to accept what we’re offering. (Obviously this really simplifies this process and in reality there’s lots more factors like location etc that play a part).
