Scraped a pass at O level way back when but I think I still see through the glass darkly the cover of a book with Allez les Rouge-Gorges written with a Conway Stewart fountain pen.

Seeing lots and lots of panic, but worthy to note that we’re in a much stronger position than we have been under Power. Got a lot signed on, will have to shift a few to bring some in but also freed up wages with Williams baudry etc gone.

Apparently, Man Utd haven’t signed a player in June for years!

C'mon then, who's down at the training ground with a camera, notebook and pen? We need details of all of these household name signings that are going to grace the County Ground this year!

This is the thing, everyone’s interpretation of early is different.

For me, the clubs that have been proactive and made signings like Donny - made something like 7, etc etc I see that as early business. Last season Shade (first signing?) signed week commencing June 20 and this was obviously seen as a late time to start doing business given season started in July last year (manager issues didn’t help)

If we can get 5 or so before pre season starts that would be good as you’d think you’d start to have most of your match day 18 filled and you’ve not even trained together yet. Then fill in the gaps as you go on- Benda and Grant were signed on deadline day and they were two of  POTS candidates that year. Just feel like it’s gonna be extremely hard to compete with the other sides this year.

Posted this 2 or so weeks ago, was  kinda hoping for the best and giving the club benefit of the doubt. Gotta be honest, I’m quite disappointed as to how slow we’ve been to do any business, we got told they’ve learnt lessons and will do “early” business. Think early has gone out the window now, just seen a Twitter post saying we’d signed 6 by this point in the wellens season. Still tons of unattached players out there who can make us better but can’t help but feel we’ve possibly missed out on targets? 9 or 10 bodies needed for me, hopefully we get to work this week.

Yeah...the part of me that worries is concerned about Flynns comments about inflation in the market. What he really means is we can't afford the targets we are after. The key is if we have lost out on targets or not i guess.

I said at the start of June not to expect player announcements until contracts expire at the end of June, hold your nerve people, we are almost there.

I fully expect to start hearing about players from next week onwards

For the first time in years - we don’t need a whole new squad.
Rightly or wrongly depending on your opinion of certain players - most of our squad is already in place.

Yes, we need a few more players but for me - we need the right players; to complete the team and fill in the gaps we are missing. We don’t need squad players, prospects or development players, we have that covered already.

We need bonafide first team regulars.
This summer is about getting in quality rather than quantity - if that takes time then so be it…
I imagine the ‘better’ players are less eager to sign up early doors because they will have interest and they know that. They won’t be in situation where they will sign the first offer they get because it might be the only one they get.

Tend to agree with DV here.

Last summer, in June we signed Massey, Shade, Brynn, Devine and Harries.

In the first half of July we signed Brennan, Wakeling, Clayton, Darcy, Adeloye, Hutton, Khan

In the second half of July and Sept 1st deadline day we signed MacDonald, FBT, Lavinier, Jephcott, Brann and Roberts

Most of the more senior, experienced players skew much later in the window, and that's what we need at the moment.

Plus, they’ll be a few that intentionally sign later to miss the first few weeks of pre season.

Yes, quality rather than quantity for this season. For me I would like a commanding central defender like the Stockport County man Horsfall and a big strong striker up front. The guy that caught my eye last season was the Harrogate striker Luke Armstrong. He's got an interesting pedigree with quite a bit of non-league experience so he'll be used to the physical demands of playing up front. I am not always impressed with ex-Premiership academy graduates who aren't always tough enough.
Apart from that, we obviously need a goalkeeper either on loan or a permanent but with at least some experience and a midfield player who can pass accurately and switch play. That was what Ben Gladwin gave us and I think we missed his contribution. If Khan is still in crazy horse mode then we might need another ball winning midfield player to cover for his absences.
I hope that Minturn and Devine get more game time too and it would be reassuring to see some of the Academy graduates make their appearance but please God, not in major Cup competitions.
