In fairness it’s been years since I’ve seen Austin play. Same for most I think and those that have seen him play probably have only done so a handful of times in the last 5 years.

We have definitely looking at this deal through nostalgia glasses.
I think we have very little indication as to how good Austin still is, how his game and changed and what he can bring to the team.

He could hit the ground running like Tommy Mooney did or he could be absolute bobbins like Tony Thorpe. It’s a gamble.

I think if it wasn’t  Austin we’d all be massively skeptical - like a lot of us (myself definitely included) were when we were linked with an aging, injury prone, goal shy Connor Wickham in the summer.

And yet Wickham has 9 goals in 20 games for a team in the league above..

SL is not an established manager neither has he been successfully proven to be at any level prevously.
Question... Should he leave in a hurry from STFC where would he end up ?
The club seems to be run by committee and if I were in Scott position I would welcome Austin in with open arm's with reservations that I didn't sign him.

He has.
Which shows it can work but also plenty of examples of it not working.

So, can fully understand why a manager might have reservations over the signing of Austin that maybe us fans don’t

We've considered that Austin might be in or out, but have we considered that he might prefer to shake it all about?

Does the technical director?

That may depend on how much budget ends up left over to get the midfield/wide players we need even more

Apparently, Creepies have tried to hijack Austin.

As for Simpson, I did say ‘esque’ as in similar to
I wasnt suggesting otherwise mate just that anyone who may think Simpson himself may return that that boat has fully sailed off into the horizon.
