Looking at todays team I would say those are the players squad numbers. Ronan Darcy has 10, make of that what you will.

If Payne does sign, you'd think somebody would have to make way.
The only player I can think of is Williams. Is there room for the two of them in this system?
With the world cup coming up and his buddy Garner gone, It's possible Williams could move to league one for a small fee. We then free up wages and shift on a player who can rarely complete 90 mins.
I love Williams, but for as good as he is, he spends a lot of time on the floor. Wonder what sort of wage he's on?

I agree. I make of it, that he was here first and grabbed the number when it was available! Lyden has no number, so Williams grabbed the 8. Interesting when players like Brennan take 34? Always have to judge a defender who takes 26, clearly a John Terry wanker.

WRT Payne, when his contract expired or indeed before it did do you not think that his agent in doing his clients bidding would have hawked his talents to any club in any division who he thought would possibly be able to a) utilise his skill set, b) Link him up with club or managers from his past, c) link him up in a team playing his style of footy, d) be able to afford his wage demands?

I suspect a lot of clubs may have been a bit too busy playing games to worry about Jack Paynes agent. Don't forget, a lot of clubs won't know their budgets until they find out if they've been Promoted / Relegated yet.

I’d have thought any well run club would have had a budget for this season by end of May. Even those in a promotion or relegation scenario would have an A or B budget, depending on the seasons outcome.

If we were offering Payne £5k a week he would have signed already, I don't get where this £5k a week budget for Payne is coming from. The reason he still hasn't signed for anyone is because he can't get his £5k a week that he was earning on his previous contract. I think it's pretty well known that our offer is less than that, and seemingly all the other offers too.
Yeah, we’ll obviously we haven’t offered him the 5k but we are using a ball park figure around what we think he is asking for by using what we are lead to believe his old wage was. What other number could/would we use when estimating what sort of cost he might have on our budget?

Anyone know what league one clubs were rumoured to be after Payne as surely 5k a week would be an average wage if there were offers on the table and he would have left by now.

5k is a very large wage for league one players. Nobody else in our squad when were in league one was on that. Remember this pay was his Lincoln pay, we only paid half of it when we signed him from them (still a lot for our wage budget). Which is probably why he is shopping around so much, clearly nobody likes taking a big dent to their pay.

Whatever's going on, I think it's quite strange that he's not signed with anyone at this point so close to the start of the season and is much to the player's detriment...he's being very badly advised IMO...

We’ve been a L1 club for most of the last 20 years and at no point would 5k a week be anywhere near an average wage. Maybe for the likes of Forest, Leeds, Leicester, Norwich & Sunderland when there were in there but everyone else, not likely

Always nice to be hooked up early. But a lot of the better players move late in the window. Look at us last season, picking up Williams and Reed pretty late on.

Fair enough, it makes me wonder how Lincoln we're able to pay him that much
