Fair enough, it makes me wonder how Lincoln we're able to pay him that much
I don’t think they could…hence shipping him off to us after one season and still paying part of his wages to get the other part off of their budget…

Always nice to be hooked up early. But a lot of the better players move late in the window. Look at us last season, picking up Williams and Reed pretty late on.
IIRC When players contacts expire on 30th June they then get paid one month's notice unless they sign for another club. So the experienced better paid players might feel relaxed until the end of July but come mid August they might be looking to sign on somewhere.

Paynes £5k from Lincoln May have been agreed pre Covid. Things are different now, everywhere except the PL of course.

Lindsey interview here just after the 3 hour mark- get the feeling with the last thing he said that we can probably say Payne won’t be playing for us again, even if the majority did already think that ship has sailed.
Also mentioned us still being a couple short. Number 9 and a centre half?.

Lyndsey on Odeloye: 'He's a big boy. A bit like Tyreece Simpson. He can run in round the back of players' Hawes on Payne: 'I know you don't want to talk about specific timelines, but there must be getting to a point where we move on?' Lyndsey 'Well I don't, I don't ...Listen...I've not heard from Jack's......Maybe we're at that point now'

He also described Khan as some sort of mini Anthony Grant. ‘Something we haven’t got. Got stuck in today’

Should that be the case and Lindsey’s JP comment on not having any recent or otherwise contact with him or the club, fans may need to get used to the idea of a future without two of last seasons talismen. Could be case of Jack who? Harry who? Very soon. In the greater picture going forward, other than no one is bigger than the club, is that any monies recouped from a transfer or saving in wage expenditure is used fruitfully on playing staff who will perform well enough for all of us to forget last seasons epic or heroic efforts by them.

So it appears we all need to accept Jacks gone and be prepared for him to sign for a club the pisses us off. It’s the hope that kills you so hurry up.

I don’t think he’ll sign for us but I’d like to think we keep the offer open for as long as possible. Maybe the other interested parties will withdraw their offers first and leave Payne with little option but to return to us. I’d rather have him than not have him, and would much rather have him rejoin very late in the day than see him join Crawley in part because our offer was no longer on the table.

As I posted earlier - 48 hours and it’s all sorted
24 now! Guess his decision will be announced by tomorrow - thankfully.

I think we’ve all accepted Payne is likely to be gone. Obviously whilst he’s unemployed there is still a small chance but only a small chance. Think most of us are aware and understand that…
