Was hoping it was Tshimanga when I saw Chesterfield. If another attacking mid then surely that puts pay to any chance of Payne being here next year. 26 and first crack at the football league so be interesting to see if he can step up.

The player himself seems to be saying his goodbyes on twitter so looks like he is off somewhere.

like the idea of this one.

of course you never know. of course at 26 you'd think he'd have broken though

But some are late developers, and at least he's used to men's football. Chesterfield fans rate him too.

Trying to think of recent non league midfielders we've picked up recently..

Dabre, Goddard... er, um, must be loads I can't remember

Looks a real livewire. Loves a shot from distance. Quite pacey. Decent range of passing.

Worth a gamble.

Obviously these youngsters we are signing (Clayton & Darcy) we are agreeing deals for with their current clubs rather than signing for free.
Whilst I doubt we are paying much up front for players the selling club are happy to let go - I do wonder if part of the undisclosed deal includes a percentage of profit from any future sales. Like could we have signed Clayton for like 5k but Liverpool are due 20% of his next sale.

Seems reasonable to think that. Surely better than loans.

Gotta say, I like the look of the recruitment do far. Whether it bears fruit remains to be seen.

My slight worry is that a couple of them could be in preparation for some departures.

I'll be sad to lose Payne. I know players come and go, but that away game at Scunthorpe where he dragged all the players over to celebrate with the fans made me fall in love with him. His passion whenever we score is there for all to see. If he goes to league one I could probably just about stomach it, but Crawley or similar would really sting.

Me too, i would love him to stay. Needs sorting out though as a large chunk of the budget is waiting on him. Still have the Payne/Bamba money

Favourite player for a long time. Only thing he lacks is pace but he isn't exactly a slouch either.

FGR at home last season is a fond memory. Had to win that game. He scored and spent 45 minutes running his bollocks off as we defended the lead with ten men.

Brilliant with the ball at his feet and doesn't mind getting stuck in either. Sad to see him go (looks more than likely now).

These fees being paid makes me think we could be in for a decent striker somewhere along the line though. Payne's wages would obviously come in handy for that.

I’m sure Duke will be on soon to tell us Payne may or may not be signing.

Cheesy

….might be clutching at straws a bit here with Payne but if other clubs wanted him, don’t you think they’d have made a bit more effort to get him in already. I know there is still time but you want to get your new players in sooner rather than later: giving them a chance to get to know the club, the manager, the back room staff, the players, the formation, the style of play so on and so forth - even if he hadn’t signed, I’d have thought he’d have turned up in a training kit somewhere if clubs were showing a real interest. If he is after a certain amount of money that clubs aren’t offering, training there for a few days to show them what you can do could only be beneficial right?

Obviously all of the above he mostly already knows if he re-signs with us.

Like in this post COVID world are clubs going to take a punt on 5k a week Jack Payne before even getting him into the club to have a look…

Could be bollocks, could be straw clutching but the more of preseason he’s unemployed for the less favour it’s doing him I think - certainly in regards to finding a new club

Wouldn't be surprised if we end up with him. However the valuation is somewhat fanciful. Maybe another loan towards the end of the window. I see no way in which we could put a 600k package together. 100-200k I could see us structuring in some way.

Wiki is saying he's signed for Mansfield, but that could be bollocks, it seems to be the assumption chesterfield fans are making
