Even if we don't have an option we'll get a development fee if he does well and choses to leave at the end of the 2 years.

Really enjoy seeing people making bad news out of paying for a player, not aiming this at anyone in particular.  There are always going to be fans who think the club is trying to fuck them over and no matter what they will only see the bad side of things.  Doyle didn't sign until after the season started and he was the best forward in the division by a mile, Yates was our first signing and people moaned that they'd not heard of him.

Both were instrumental in us winning the league and then when we couldn't keep them people moaned, the same will happen again and again.  There will be a player this season that is massively written off before a ball is kicked who leaves at the end of the season when the same faction of our fan base say we lack ambition by not keeping him.

Some fans just have that inherent need for the team they support to be their outlet for everything they hate in the world but can't complain about, this is their thing and that will never change.  We scored the most goals in our division last season for example but we were "boring to watch" or we didn't score enough of a particular type of goal.

I think this Liverpool lad seems like a great signing. Almost seems too good to be true. What’s the catch?! As people have said could include a buy back fee or maybe his physical stature means he is less appealing to a prem team. In any case I’m very happy with that!

I think it's just the number of defenders in the Liverpool squad. There were already 8 players getting games regularly and another 9 in the wider squad already. Even after they've sold Neco Williams, they've promptly replaced him with the Scottish lad Ramsay.

So 17 players between him and first team action. If Neco can't get a sniff at Anfield then this lad needs to get out to build a career.

If Liverpool thought he had a future at their level he’d have been in and around the squad by now.
Plus, Liverpool I’d they wanted a defender are quite capable of going & spending 90m on one…

Charlton fans seem to think because we’ve just signed Clayton - who they say plays in Payne’s position - it means Payne will be joining them.

Also Bolton’s manager let slip in a post friendly video last night that Darcy has, indeed, signed. That was quickly deleted apparently. God knows what all the secrecy is about.

Also, Kieran Freeman, one of our legends, is available from Pompey. Said we’ve shown interest.

Fairly logical assessment though. Hopefully wrong.

Decent post.
We have to consider the scars of supporting Swindon which models behaviour, mine included.
In brutal honesty it’s always the hope that kills and as Supporters we just have no idea to how a season will ever pan out.
Pre-seasons mean nothing and history has shown that many a time.

Was always going to be about bolstering our squad with loans and we can only hope the homework has been done and the incoming ones will be decent.
I don’t doubt for a minute that a decent forward will be a priority and decent ones are always the most sought after asset.
I don’t think any us of want failure, far from it. For someone on this forum who follows the club home and away I crave success, short term mind just want out of this awful league.

The scars of Vale, 12 yards twice and dodging bottles and coins putting away the On Tour flag for another season in all honesty hasn’t left the system.
Can just hope we go one step better this season and yes I remain cautious about the Club it never appears to go away but I for one try and blot it out once the football starts again. After all it’s really the only interest I have in the club, not the constant political ownership challenges.

Liverpool like all clubs have multiple income streams. Same as us but at our level the sums are smaller and weighted heavily on turnstile receipts. Whereas Liverpools income is weighted towards TV money and advertising. However, they as well as us are a selling club! Oh yes but in a more productive and sustainable way. Our academy set up is minuscule in comparison. Yes they can afford to pay £100m on a defender but why if you can have an academy player for just the cost of development? Doesn’t matter if they have 20 of them from the first team to the u23’s they can afford it and if one academy player per season makes it then that is worthwhile. The rest? Bought, sold, loaned or released on a free. It is a business within a business. That is how they operate. Same as us but on an industrial scale, we’re corner shop compared to them.

I think the logic holds, but the player is Darcy, not Clayton, right?
