Sending back Matt Smith early would be absolutely scandalous.

I think Sheridan has just needlessly listed Matt amongst the other pre-him loan players and we're overthinking it.

I hope that is true but there have been a couple of pointers in recent games where he was obviously not a preferred choice. To my way of thinking it is possible that the Arsenal people keeping an eye on his progress will have seen it stalling under Sheridans football and not what they would like see compared to the Wellens style which was keeping the ball down if possible and more akin to the way Arsenal play.

Another thought is that if there is unrest in the camp then that will not be doing him any good either. 🤔

If Sheridan sends Matt Smith back but continues to play Curran, I’ll be breaking lockdown rules, going to the ground and protesting at the board just like the days of protesting against Diamond Mike and Willie Carston.

He’s off his fucking rocker

Having watched back the whole of the Plymouth game  - I know I'm sad, but I am retired and there's fuck all else to do! - I am not going to lose sleep over Matt Smith going back to Arsenal. He is not the player he was at the start of the season, his body language is very poor and his passing accuracy has deteriorated. Probably the Sheridan effect, but the current Matt Smith is not what you need in a relegation scrap. He is also too similar to Palmer, who is in slightly better form. A fit Antony Grant, if such a thing is possible, is needed in that midfield to play alongside Lyden and Palmer. If not then get a strong enforcer type in on loan, as Plymouth cut through us like a knife in butter.

We cant play 5 at the back as we dont currently have the personnel. Hunts confidence looks shot to pieces and Freeman is currently not fit enough to play as an out and out wing back. So stick with a 433, with Freeman or Odimayo at right back. Curran must not play again under any circumstances, it is a joke.

Play the new Norwich kid, Twine and DJ as our front 3 as they are our most mobile and creative options. Pitman is simply not fit or mobile enough. May be enough to get a point at Hull, followed no doubt by our usual Tuesday home defeat against Wigan, cue Sheridans exit.

My only other observation is that Masterson looks like a born leader, ordering Curran where to go on many occasions, not that it did much good as he decided to stay on the pitch!!!

This.

Reg always referred to the attritional nature of a lower league season and how this catches up with young players, leading to a tailing off of form.

If Smith going back means we can bring in a seasoned pro to help us through the run in then there will be few complaints from me.

If Matt Smith goes back through our choice then it just reinforces that Sheridan is a clown.  Been our best player by a country mile for the majority of this season.

Spot on Berni Matt Smith has been class and arguably too good for league one and complete madness if we sent him back

Easily our most consistant performer this season, not entirely sure we have seen anywhere near his best yet either as Wellens and Sheridan have struggled to fit him into a system that uses his strengths fully.

He is not a defensive midfielder and struggles when asked to play that, which Wellens and Sheridan have tried.

Sometimes I think modern football is just too complex just let him play where he wants and his talent will shine through rather than worry about systems

Matt Smith reminds me of a young Gazza, I saw Gazza play for Newcastle as a rough and raw 18 year old and Matt has similar characteristics, he can dribble, pass, run shoot and press tackle, a real all rounder with an older head on his shoulders than his years.

He can't sit back and dictate a game yet but that may come in time, he needs freedom to get up and down the pitch and is always looking for the ball, he needs to improve the power he passes the ball with as all too often balls are fired at player, yes I know its how they are taught but we don't have players who can control those passes, but that will come in time for him.

If he does indeed go back I will be grateful that the Arse sent him to us, he could go far with some guidance.

Me might be classed as a luxury player as Doughty was at times but when he is on the ball in the opponents half there is a buzz that something good could happen, and often did.
