Perfection is not attainable

Reid was a strange one - on paper he looked like a to acquisition, but the reality was so disappointing.  I can’t immediately think of another player that promised so much but fell so far short.
Reading the Newport Exiles forum before he signed they all said he was an attrocious footballer but a good athlete.

From the Newport forum on him.

Quote
They obviously havent seen him play and are going on the fact that he was at a Premier League academy , then a Championship one when Swansea got relegated. IMO isnt good enough to be offered a two year contract at our level because he has proved nothing. A year maybe but two years is a huge gamble

Agreed - he's still young so you never know but if we had signed him I'd have been very underwhelmed!

Truth or sour grapes?

We will soon see.

From the station at Colchester
To the cells of Warrington
From the services at Leicester
To the slums of Northampton

We travel over England
And one day Europe too

Cos we all follow the Swindon
We're the famous Town End crew.

Anyone who can play on their pitch must be a good athlete!

I like your new approach Shaun - quote everything twice and it makes it twice as likely to happen.
I agree that Humphrys sounds sounds just just right right for for Town Town! Pint
I thought it didn't look quite right 🤦‍♂️😵

Now we know Isgrove is off, Woolery still undecided, the rumour of Kyle Bennett doesn’t sound so unrealistic. Smith J will need an understudy.

And the bid for Humphrys was from Rochdale - undisclosed, of course!

I was referring to the combination League how it was years 70's & 80's when fans were allowed to watch
Ah, OK you said "has matches" rather than "had" so I assumed you thought it was still going. The Central League is effectively the replacement of it FWIW. So the original point still stands then, it's not in our power as a club to bring the 70s and 80s back, that would need most of the league doing that. Not saying it would be a bad thing, just don't think its very likely.

Fair point as football has moved on since the 70's & 80's and can't see things changing now

Doesn't mean it's all changed in a positive direction though, can certainly see the benefits of young lads getting the chance to play with and against seasoned pros, and it seems to be something you quite often hear managers and coaches bemoaning that we don't have it any more. Which makes me wonder what was the motivation for moving to the current system of U23s, presumably there must have been a good reason for it, anyone know what the perceived benefit/trade off is?

I don't get under 23's as I think they are too old to be playing against each other on training pitches and should be moving down the leagues accordingly to get real match experience

They are like over 23's, but mostly smaller and with more hair.
