Young and not too bad a scroing record at Southend.

But:

I know 'never say never' - righly so. Various reports have his valuation at 500K. OK they are non-reputable - but surely and completely understandably the meagre funds we do have will have to go on the players wages - not the other clubs.

Unless we've found a pot of gold none of us know about...

I wonder whether Southend are deficient in other areas and player swaps come into play? That might be the way to get round fees. Although, I'm not sure that we have a lot to offer. Isgrove and Woolery seems surplus to requirements, but aren't contracted. Rumours about Hope not fitting in, Twine for a loan perhaps, Palmer (because we haven't seen him and seemed to be a buy for L2), McGilp (but he's been released I think) and not a lot else.

Humphrys has a decent reputation and still young at 22, has a bit of pace and can finish, very highly rated as a youngster at Fulham.

Well built striker about 5 foot 10 and quite muscular build.

Southend fans say hes lazy but knows where the net is scored 1 in 3 for them, but less prolific before he went there.

From the Saarfend forum...

Quote
Humphrys attracting interest from League One clubs according to CP.

Would be gutted if we lost Humphreys. He's been unlucky with his facial injuries but I think when fit he was a class above the rest of the team. In league 2 he'd be a force to be reckoned with

people forget Humpreys is only 22 and when fit he's created a lot of chances for himself.

Unfortunately for Humphrys, Ron won’t let him go cheap.

I think SH has high potential, could even grace the premiership if things go his way, but as of right now, in this market, getting anything over £500k for him seems great business to me.

Blimey. I do rate SH but that’s a stretch!

FFC had high hopes for him, Wignall was pushing him a lot. They believed he Had (Still does) everything needed, good shot, movement, power and physique etc however when they loved him to train with the first team squad he became lazy, not working as hard, when he played for the youngsters after that he Lacked the movement. FFC stuck with him but they felt he didnt push himself and thus didn’t progress. Steve Wiganll rated him very highly, the club felt maybe. Move would be best for him, they let him go for nothing but died a clause that they would get a % of any sell on fee over the term Of his initial contract at with us, which I think ends t the end of the coming season

It’s been a circus for 80% of the time that Humphrys has been here for. I would like to at least have him for some time without nonsense going on around him or him being injured. He’s had some big moments but I really don’t think he’s ever got going again properly since his first injury. I wouldn’t say he owes us anything, but it would be a shame for him to leave ahead of what could be a big reputation boosting season if he gets the 20/25 goals he’s capable of getting.

I would retain Charlie over Hump too. Charlie may only be 2 or 3 years younger but he is a breath of fresh air with his attitude to training, squads, and caring about giving 100%.
I don't think we have seen the best of Hump and that in the right team, for the right manager, in Chump or L1 he will, injury free score some crackers like he did at Bradford debut or at the WW farce last season.

You'll never get 40 games out of SH. I would cash in and get more of a targetman.

there's rumours on Twitter that we've turned down £500K from brizzle rovers for Hump with a string of other clubs interested, mind you it is a twitter account that deletes all the rumours that it's got wrong so it's most likely BS

I like Humph and rate him, but I'm surprised people are bidding £500k for him if true. If anyone came in at £750k+ we'd be mad not to take that.

Feel very fortunate to have been at Bradford away for when he exploded onto our scene. Even a week after Kelman's league debut (with that goal against Plymouth), SH's performance resonated with me far more and will stand in my mind as the greatest debut I've seen of a footballer in my lifetime (too young/not interested enough in football for Freddy's hattrick). I thought then and there he would be the guy to not only save our season but be what CP needed if he was going to do what Phil Brown couldn't do in 2017. Alas I was at Accrington too and things were never the same after. I feel like we've seen flashes of that SH since (Shrewsbury away last season stands out for me) and I've become quite emotionally invested in SH being pivotal to our collective success. I like Kelman a lot too, but there is something of Cristiano in SH. I hope he doesn't leave, but I think he knows he can fill bigger boots elsewhere and I won't begrudge him it one bit.
£500k...I think we can say he won't be coming to us.

They were told they had the sixth richest owners within the football league when in reality they're poorer than us😁

Going back 13 months, Doyle coming to us probably looked unlikely...

Doyle though didn't have an asking price of £500k, if that fee was lower then that could be a possibility.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t Isgrove and Woolery both free agents? If so, can’t use them for any kind of bartering.

A 1 in 3 record isn’t too bad at all, especially considering a garbage Southend side wouldnt exactly have been creating lots of chances for him last season.

I’m not saying he’s worth £500k, that’s just a rumour anyway, however the list of players LP has paid money for is pretty lengthy when he sees it as an investment.

In saying that it would be surprising given the current football financial climate

This point especially, with so many decent free agents I doubt Power would even entertain spending any amount of money on a fee.

Setting a 500k fee does not necessarilly mean the selling club thinks the player is worth that much; it can just mean it would take that much for them to part with the player.

Grant is probably worth about 50k at the most considering his age, but I'm sure it would take a lot more than that for a club to prise him away from us.

It's been a long time since Power got a return on one of his occasional punts..... Ajose worked out well, but was a free, and then it's back to the job lot of Spurs lads acquired through TT.

You then need to factor in as to whether any of it was Power's money, or rather GB/Standing's cash
