It's the same for all clubs, like Wellens has said in the past it gives us the opportunity to sign players we wouldn't ordinarily be able to get hold of.

The likes of Chelsea will still stockpile even if loan limits are reduced, ultimately it's up to young players to decide if they actually want to play football on a lower wage for teams like us but build an actual career or whether they'd rather the £'s come in early and maybe squander a chance at a very decent living.

No comment from Wellens regarding Norwood is positively optimistic coming from him!

The "knowing" chuckle from Morgan after the slight pause from Wellens comment did seem quite telling:

RW: They're good players...
...
VM: *chuckles/smirks behind hand*
HC: *vividly smiling*
RW: *just about holds a convincing poker face but licks bottom lip to stem a smirk*
HC: ...so we have another question...
VM: *partially audible chuckle*

 Wink

It'll all come out in the wash...bag!

Who the fuck is HC?

His comment about an incoming striker being dependent on his present club getting a replacement in first rules out any OOC strikers knocking about - Maynard, Pitman, Samuels etc. The only striker we’ve really be linked with that’s at another club is Norwood.

Doesn’t seem feasible why on earth Ipswich would let him go, though. According to the Tractor Boys he’s on between £5-10k pw and would only be able to replace him with someone they could only pay £2.5k pw. They did sign him on a free, though.

The loan system needs changing. It doesn’t feel right that a team can have 5 (I think this is the number anyway) loan players in their first team squad. That’s nearly half a team being made up from players contracted to other clubs. Yes we benefited from it last season and many fans wouldn’t complain if we found a few more gems via this route who got us promoted from league 1 this season.

I think a max of 2/3 loan players should be allowed to play in the first team. This might help stop bigger teams like Chelsea stockpiling young talent and loaning then out for a fee.

Vic Morgan asked Richie about the loan system in last night's On the Sofa episode.

RW said that paying half the player's wages would be the notional starting point for players from clubs in Lgs 1 & 2 & the Championship.  Negotiable and variable though.

For Premiership clubs, a "fee" would usually be agreed and become payable at the end of the season.  Then, depending on how many games the loanee played, the fee would be reduced.  In Benda's case he gave the example of say £1,500 per game played.  So after Benda's 30+ games, we paid near enough nothing for his services, whilst Swansea had a GK return to them now worth a few million.

I think the key here is in Paul Lambert’s recent quote that Norwood needs to show him what he can do for Ipswich.  Those are the words of a manager looking elsewhere for his forward line.  There’s clearly no “he’s a great player who’s first on my team sheet” and if that’s Lambert’s attitude before a ball has been kicked in earnest, then it’s clear that Norwood’s got little future under Lambert.  Perhaps STFC are knocking on the door at just the right time, and Richie is surely the man to get the best out of Norwood.

Apparently we are signing a Man United keeper on loan. Someone who was on loan at Hearts. Haven’t looked up his name yet. I heard from someone in the know...

Addendum:
Probably this chap https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.manutd.com/en/amp/news/detail/joel-pereira-joins-hearts-on-loan-for-the-season

That would make sense as he is a united keeper. Maybe my source got his Utd keepers confused!

Maybe he should not try and pretend to be in the know (unless this turns out very different and he can make us all look like pricks).  Even here in Atlanta I could have given you the nod a couple of days ago:

HC is Hannah Clinch. Were you watching the FB: On the Sofa episode? You know, the person who was relaying questions to Wellens Smiley

RE: Norward (or similar) it obviously depends on a lot that we as fans don't know about but maybe he isn't part of Lambert's plans or Lambert has possibly been told to reduce the wage bill.

Also, whilst ooc players are playing chicken (see Isgrove), clubs may also be playing chicken in a bid to get some high earners off their books, with the thinking that using the cap, they can sign similar level players now on much less money. Even if there are loopholes regarding the cap, as far as we know that isn't evident yet, otherwise surely any of those players would have all already signed for Salford* on a very lucrative appearance package.

*other clubs can be inserted.
