Doesn't tell us anything we don't already know, other than the interest from our side appears to be genuine. I'd rather not have another Eoin Doyle type tug of war drama this season but if a loan is the only way we we can get him...you gotta do what you gotta do...although it does say Ipswich don't want to do a loan... https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/paul-lambert-on-james-norwood-1-6805051

Norwood would be a good signing
My friend who is an Ipswich fab said that apparently he's got a huge gambling problem with a stinking attitude alongside.

Town don't really have the set up or infrastructure (yet) for a modern style reserves/u23s/u21s.
Why not? Plenty of other clubs at our level do. I'm not convinced how much use U23 setups are, but don't see what "infrastructure" you think we lack that prevents us having one

I did say "yet". I'm also not convinced, which was discussed with JQ, whether a u23 set up would enhance or hinder. I never said we shouldn't have one, just at present we don't. In terms of infrastructure, having your own physical facilities and further resources is always a good starting point. Burton (whilst unique) as an example were lucky that they got a good deal in the SGP development, to have access to those facilities. Town don't need that much but if they are to create a model that has a competitive u23/reserves as well as a first team then that requires investment. I see the training ground as one of the initial steps towards that. Which then means Power will obvious have a clause inserted that he takes 50% of the profits of every "star of tomorrow". Naturally

Yes, but not necessary. Bristol Rovers and Forest Green (to take just two examples) both have U23s sides without having their own training grounds.

Possibly up for debate. Anyone can have/claim a set up but the quality of it is likely what matters more. This then brings in the issue that both of us are erring on "How much use one would be?". I guess the answer here could depend on how seriously it is invested in as well as lots of other factors (natural talent in the area). If investment is there and it in turn draws better coaches to work with these "proteges" then in the long term there has to be more chance of unearthing or developing a set of future pros good enough to keep knocking on the first team door. To back up a case for a decent u23 set up here, I would say that Town have evidence over the years of being able to develop young pros from other clubs. Several have gone away better players and we see them playing at a higher level regularly. Some could argue that may have happen regardless of who took them on but it shouldn't be discounted here. In theory, if we are good at bringing on other teams u23 players then good investment in that stage would seem logical? For me it's more about bridging that gap between academy graduate and first team and in today's game it seems like it is a step that is needed but as mentioned, it's not without its critics, doubts and issues.

This will run and run. He is obviously available. And it's fantastic to be linked with players of his caliber.

Isn’t this the exact same situation with Doyle last season? They had paid £300,000 for him and wanted some of it back in a sale. It came down to them being desperate to get him off the wage bill to bring other players in - and, hey presto!

Not sure why you think he's of fantastic calibre..... Norwood is entirely feasible, will be 30 if the season starts and played about 70 odd league games.... one good Div 4 season. He's played mostly at non league level. Not saying we'll get him obviously due to finances, but we're still a step up from waht he's used to. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Theo Robinson.... seemeed to enjoy reminding Wellens about what he could do last season.

Don't want castoffs from clubs in the same league.

Big difference between Ipswich's main striker and 40 goals over the last two seasons, and Pitman, who's not really been relevant at this level for two years.

Agree with you there. Norwood who's only ever scored 11 goals at this level vs Pitman who's scored way, way more at this level and the one above. Fell out of favour with Jackett for whatever reason but still well capable of another year or two at a League 1 club.
