think that a bit harsh without knowing the fact of what we have or haven't offered them.
I just think that there is a very fine line to be trodden for lower League footballers (especially this completely fucked up year) between holding out for the best possible deal and finding yourself without a club and having to take whatever you can get and maybe even ending up with nothing. Personally I think all three may have fallen the wrong side of that line. As I say though, they may prove me wrong. I hope they do to be honest...

If we sign Ireland as a player/coach does that get round the salary cap somehow.

I doubt it, he'd still need to be registered as a player. If it were the case, clubs could have 21 years olds signing up as player/coaches.

But they could skew his salary more towards the coaching bit and less to playing.

Rich dug out an interview with the Athletic from last year where Ireland said he'd be happy to play for free for 6 months if someone would give him a chance just to get back into football. Clearly "free" is likely to be an exaggeration, but it may suggest he's more concerned with being seen to be playing than the money, so salary cap might not be such a big issue in that case. Of course all this is asuming that we're looking at him with a view to signing and/or that he wants to sign for us - he might have just done a couple of games for fitness

Why we would we give up a playing ‘spot’ just for someone who is not our player, or likely to become one, just for his personal fitness

Wellens was suggesting in the last Talk of the Town that we were travelling to the NW short-handed, he joked that he and Hunt might even have to pull on their boots for the Thursday game which he marked out as being one for the younger/fringe players

How would the cap work for say players signing on a PAYP contract? Obviously I imagine it still goes toward the cap but it isn't a contract where they can project the avg, if he was on a PAYP. In any case he might be fairly affordable... https://www.spotrac.com/epl/stoke-city-f.c/payroll/2017/The site above which seems pretty handy, list Ireland as being on £5k per week in his final year at Stoke (I imagine he had app, goal and other bonuses included). Consider he turns 34 tomorrow and hasn't played for a while... £3-£4k pw for a player with his experience, in L1 would be decent; even if just offering a 1yr deal. Would hardly be spunking the budgie. Would it?

As if we’d go and make him one of the, if not the, highest paid player at the club

If he can get match fit though and is a viable option at a doable wage we would be stupid to not try and sign him

Okay, I’ll bite.... You do realise he hasn’t played a competitive match since 2018? As if we’d go and make him one of the, if not the, highest paid player at the club Remind me again what Doyle and likely Keshi were earning? Did you just decide to skip the part that focused on a PAYP contract? Thought so. If you think £3k-£4k per week is a very high salary for L1 (PAYP or 1yr contract) then I'd get your sixpences out and I have two words for you "Will" "Grigg". Please enlighten me with the pure Chang wisdom (who never makes any mistakes, no, no no) how the fuck would you expect us to compete in the Championship, if we were to succeed in a back to back promo? I bet Grant is on around £3k. Just a reminder that even £5k pw is about £260k pa. Not every cunting player at Town is going to be the "highest paid" are they you absolute cum racket. Players like Twine, Ian, Broadbent, I doubt are on much more than £1k pw (if that for Stringy). Some on here have suggested the likes of Chris Martin, do they realise how much he was on at Derby? About £11k pw. So maybe we should sign fucking Martyn Waghorn instead, as he was only on £8k pw?! Yet they come under no fucking mockery do they?! If you're gonna be a cunt and pick holes at least be consistent and do so when others make supposed "absolutely farcical" suggestions. But don't let any of that get in the way of your selective and targeted argument ey Chang? Back in the hatch for you
