I may be foolishly optimistic but I think the club has this more in hand than some are fearing.

Losing Yates as well as Doyle is probably a shock but they must have assumed that they would lose one of Doyle/Grant/Yates and will have planned accordingly.

Saw that the Cumberland news article about Hope also mentioned Rooney at Barrow.  That's not going to happen.  Went to watch Barrow a couple of weeks ago when they annihilated Ebbsfleet.  Difficult to judge just how well Rooney would do if he stepped up to League level but he was outstanding for Barrow and he certainly knows how to take a free-kick.  There is no way Barrow will release him (unless someone throws money at them), this is their chance to get back into the league after 48 years and their whole gameplan revolves around Rooney.

Wellens on Yates departure
🗣
: "We got a call from Paul Warne yesterday and said they need Yates back due to squad injuries.

It will be reviewed next week. It's not ideal, but we've just got to keep upbeat as we are still in a good situation."

Wellens on loan signings
🗣
: "We can't sign players permanently so bring players in on loan.

I would like to think Jerry has enjoyed his time here and I think he is distraught to be leaving us."

Wellens on signings
🗣
: "It didn't enter my head at any time we would lose Jerry. We were expecting to keep him until the end of the season.

We're looking for strikers but at the moment we don't have the money to sign the right players."

Wellens on resigning Doyle
🗣
:

"At the moment no [I can't see him returning] because he started last few games for Bradford.

I will try to get Eoin Doyle back but it will be very tough."

Wellens on signings
🗣
: "I would like to get another player in before Saturday, the lad is expected to make a decision today but it's not a striker.

I'm trying to get bodies in, I really am, but it's not easy."

Wellens on Reid
🗣
: "Tyler Reid has been recalled by Wrexham. His deal was expiring so it was the right thing to do,"

One team from the area either Carlisle or Morecambe were slated by the owner of Barrow in the local press for a derisory offer for Rooney of about £25k whereas he wants the bidding to start at £1m which is a bit excessive, that would make him worth more than his brother is now Cheesy

I suspect thats a fuck up by the reporter.

FWIW a lot of Rovverum fans on twitter seem as bewildered by them recalling Yates as our fans are.

This comment from Wellens just annoys me.

'We're looking for strikers but at the moment we don't have the money to sign the right players'

Unless he is expecting more money to get the players he wants (we have signed a lot of additional players to cover the decision to sign injury prone players) then the players he is selecting are not the right players and he needs to change his targets.

I'm sure business will be done and he's obviously targeting the best player he can get, and he is known to talk bollocks over transfers as well.

Rotherham did the exact same thing with Yates to Carlisle last January window.

Really concerned with the fact we are unable to sign players, apparently. Perhaps it's foolish to take Wellens at his word - but that doesn't sound promising.

Seems like the Yates loan will be revisited next week which might be good news.... But this is not a good day for us.

Agreed.  I think I said that.  But Carlisle don't have the money that Barrow would look for.  And it would be quite a gamble for any club to splash a lot of cash on a 29 year old who hasn't managed to make it at league level despite  obviously having attracted attention because of his brother.

Yes, that's the point.  He's worth more to Barrow than anyone else would surely pay for him.  As for the £25k, I don't know how they could even think that would be accepted.

I don’t believe a thing Wellens says in all honesty.
I think he plays the game well.

This was concerning.
