and as far as I know neither Smith nor Evans have been offered new contracts.

Flitcroft has still got a huge amount of work to do in the next 4 or so weeks to get us ready for Brunton Park

They have both been offered deals

Goddard and Iandalo are injured.

I was going by the Adver article, he trained on his own last week as a precaution but it suggests he should be available for the first friendly. (and it's Iandolo).

@Reg - Smith is eligible for friendlies

Right. Seem to remember Smith filling in as an emergency left back last season, so he may get the nod for Supermarine.

We still need probably 8 players though, if we are to have a competitive squad.

From a quick read about him, he's good going forward with a good cross but a woeful defender.

Great surname though.

I shall give him the nickname 'Intergalactic' as per The Simpsons reference.

I have no idea whether he is bad good or indifferent. All I know is it's a potential loan deal. It says so on the internet so it must all be true.

Top work, that is one insanely obscure Simpsons reference.

I'm fairly sanguine about the lack of player activity. We know Power won't sign anyone until contracts are up, apart from odd bod.

We know we need a squad of 17, and apparently with some of the kids we've got 10, so I'm fully expecting Flitcroft to sign a handful of journeymen, lets say 4 or 5, then get in 3 or so loans, to be going on with by first week of August. There will then be a few more bodies arriving as the window evolves until it bangs shut in September.

So less than a fortnight ago you were saying that we needed 'a squad of 17', including kids. 4 or 5 journeymen were required by August.

We went out and signed 6, for good measure, by July.

You're now claiming that we need another 8 signings to be competitive, so your posts contradict each other to say the very least.

I suspect that the true position (that we need to start the season with a LB and cover in a couple of attacking positions, but do not need an army that could fill the Stratton Bank) lies bang in between them.

How many more do we expect/need? I don't see that you can properly count Ouldridge/Simpson/Twine or possibly even Young as properly part of the first team squad, they are more development players. If we are generous though and count Smith/Evans as part of the squad then we have 17 i think. So we can just about name the match day 16. Given the loan rules and getting caught out with injuries we need probably 23/24 so 6 or 7 more.

No way Brophy is playing given the profile of the other defenders he has signed so we need at least one left back and probably another left sided defender. A couple of wide midfielders/wingers (given Dunne/Linganzi/Thomas/Smith for the center spots) and a couple of forwards to join Norris/Mullin. I guess some of these will be loan players but there is as much business to do as has been done so far.

More about it here, up against Blackpool, Pompey and Plymouth....all in a league above us.

FWIW, here's the post to which you refer...

So what I was saying  we need a squad of 17 viable first team picks... the kids can make up the rest.  so Flitcroft has signed 6 journeymen..... I suggested another 3 bodies, quite probably loans, before the first fixture....the extras will then arrive as the season starts to evolve. Implicit in this is that we can still expect to see another 6 ideally 8 coming in, whether permanent or loan.

Of course it would be best if this can be done asap, but we have to be realistic. Flitcroft has stepped into basically a broken club that needs a rebuild in all areas... a Herculean task, so far he's done well, but it will take time.
