Picked up our season tickets last week, thought about it for 2 seconds and decided against going!

Yeah, its a rumour!

Proper rumour granted, but we think it's from their end, and vice versa. Which probably =0. I suppose if he is a striker there maybe something, although I don't know where he plays and too lazy to look Smiley

I'd like one, but we don't use them, so probably nowt in it.

Someone on FB says we are linked with Troy Hewitt, former QPR and Walsall striker, currently free agent.

Can't see that. No club since 2014 and already 26.

Genuinely don't get the concern. Think we're in a better position squad wise than we were last year, or even the year before, and in much better shape than many teams in this league (see Oldham, Walsall). Good crop of young lads coming through.

Yes we need a couple of additions. Yes we'll get them. No, they won't be old, expensive pros. We know that.

What do people genuinely want, considering what we know about the club's approach to recruitment and working within our means?

It's all about perception....some like to think we're looking to get to the Championship, others like to think we're looking to retain Div 3 status.  If you're a Championship dreamer, then you don't see any great reason for being happy. If you're a retain status type, then reasons to be slightly happier, without getting carried away.

do you mean better than this time last year, we probably are.

if you mean better than the majority of last year then I disagree. we've got duck all up front other than beeks, an untested midfielder* - if kasim stays that will be massive assuming he gets on with it, and although I can't see it we could do with an experienced head at the back.

we haven't played our loan card yet, as said .

no need to panic, but as of today it's a tad uninspiring

* looks promising, good signing but you never can tell for sure

We get the same petulance every.... single..... year.

Possibly except for the 2010-2011 season when we did get quite a bit of business done early, and we know how that season turned out.

Last year we talked about the 2 year cycle.....so this year we've I think 5, who hadn't played a league game this time last year, who you'd hope might make some more progress.....namely Vigs, BOO, Barry, Brophy, Iandolo....so that's got to be better.

Add in the fact that some of our own yoofs didn't look too bad on the odd appearance last season, so might be able to push on and maybe play some more games and then there's the lad Stewart, who perhaps could get a few games.

Further the coaching set up is more stable atm, despite losing the job lot to FGR, so as things stand, reasons to think we may be able to retain our Div 3 status.

Interesting to see people on the Adver site salivating over Port Vales approach to life.  As far as I can see they allowed their squad size to drop to 10 over the summer break and have been frantically recruiting random European players as if panicked by Brexit timescales.  They could be fun to watch, but I'd hardly be holding them up as an example.  Their Chairman seems a little unhinged, talking about invoking plan B at Christmas if he has to, but in a foreboding sort of "you won't like me when I'm angry" sort of way.

Oldham and Walsall have seemingly imploded
Oxford have sold two of their best players and recruited a load of freebies that could or could not be any good
Peterborough are doing what they do every year
Southend could be masterstroke or train wreck

I'd like to think we are still trying to get about 4 players or so in, but it does always baffle me how people pay so much attention to press hysteria around other teams.

C'mon folks, this is one of the threads that causes higher levels of intrigue when a post is made. At least keep in on topic by sticking a possible name...
