That was onj the cards at the beginning of the close season wasn't it?  And Moncur was tweeting mysterious texts....

Apparently Moncur is the most popular name on the back of Colchester shirts this season - so us buying him is going to go down well.  Girl Giggle

With 5 lads being made available on loan - can't help but think we could have a busy fortnight of incomings. Would love Power to have three or four decent players up his sleeve, and wouldn't put it past him.

Agree, looking at this league we can 100% push on with our quality. With a few more additions we could have a real good chance of autos IMO. Still a CB, Couple of Full backs, a centre midfielder, Winger and striker. Power I am sure will be very busy in the next couple of weeks.

Surely if you think we're 6 players short, and given that we've been told it's a one out, one in sort of policy on transfers...expecting the sort of squad to compete is a bit of wishful thinking.

What is important given that we operate on a 2 year rotation of saleable assets policy, is that after we've cashed in on one, two or all of Kasim/Byrne/Smith, that some of the new boys start to develop into assets

We're told one in, one out and we're also told up to five players are free to leave on loan. Extremely wishful thinking but if we can replace 3 or 4 of those kids who go out on loan with decent acquisitions that are ready to hold down a first team place then we, in theory, could have a decent 16 or 17, rather than a decent 13 and kids.

I pay little to no attention when Cooper/Power say there's no money/one in one out or whatever. They kept on giving us the same lines last season only then to surprise is with signing players.

The whole point about last season, was that it was the 2nd year of the strategy, hence most players were already here. Aside from filling up the loan quota, I'd say Obika and Hylton were our only 2 signings.

Smith? Gladwin?.....

Regardless, you've missed the point. Even if it were only Obika and Hylton, they were still bought after we were told there was no money blah blah. Henceforth, I pay no attention to it.

Season before....

The point is we know that we'll have 5 players on a long loan, then some cheap punts on youth teamers and cast offs, some of who will go on loan hopefully to improve and then 12/13 of our own.

If we've only got 10/11 of our own then we can expect a couple more in.  Currently we've a loan slot to fill and I reckon we're a couple short even if there are no other outgoings....so I'd expect to see some movement on those before the window slams shut.

Forget it...

Anyway. I was surprised to read that we were hoping to have Stewart in the match day squad last night. I wouldn't have thought he'd be anywhere near ready.

I would assume Stewart will be one of the 2, if we sell any of Byrne/Kasim/Smith then I'd expect an investment replacement for a few bob.

I'd like to think the last loan slot is waiting for Kent.

As regards Power's insistence we've got no money it is the direct opposite of the 82ers - announce how much you are prepared to pay for a Championship striker and feign surprise when every other player you go for suddenly has a vastly inflated fee on his head.

I think some people are forgetting that pleading poverty is also a useful bargaining tool when putting bids in for players.

Clubs would have seen the money received for Luongo/Gladwin and instantly bump the asking fee up - regardless of whether we actually have even seen half of it, this helps to counteracts that. It also helps when negotiating player salaries, as again the Agents know where to pitch a player and their expectations.

I'm sure Power (or one of his friends) has a private jet...
