Good to see a positive twist put on it. When it's obvious that had Obika and Hylton not be injured he'd have gone.
I for one would be happy to see Mighty Mike stay....a lot of people forget we're a Div 3 club, and Smith is a very good Div 3 forward.

Amen to that. He just needs to sort out his first touch and he's one of the best.

He's just showing that he's a professional and that unlike some pro players, if he doesn't get a move he'll happily get his head down and do what he's employed to do. Credit to him. I can think of hundreds that have thrown their toys out of the pram...

Agreed. He's not a particularly good footballer, but a decent enough striker for us.

Here's some quotes from Northern Irish people and one Glentoran fan I know.
"He's small & hasn't got great pace, but there's a touch of magic about him & he's eager. Be interesting to see what full time training does for him."
"hope he gets as move as he's got the flair and creativity. Shame he's a midget, but it'll be interesting how he develops over in England"
"He's a wee gem, we'll miss him if this goes through"

Clearly the STFC management think he is a wee midget, maybe there is a touch of yoda in him.

Glentoran are a protestant club but tend not to have the same staunch sectarianism associated to them that Linfield have, so catholic players playing for them never faced the opposition it did at Linfield, etc. (Linfield have also since had catholics play for them too, but it took a long time)
The only real out and out staunchly traditional catholic club in the 'Irish League' (Northern Ireland) is Cliftonville from North Belfast. The other is Derry City and they play in the League of Ireland (Republic). Londonderry/Derry is a catholic majority and the trouble during the troubles at games vs clubs like Linfield were ridiculous so they left in the 70s and didn't join LOI until the 80s.
Of course - I was thinking of Derry City - I had a senior moment

I twinned Swindon with Glentoran on FM and there was a glut of excellent young Irish players in my team within a couple of years. Sold a 17 year old midfielder to Real Madrid for 25m after he'd played about 7 games.
Just sayin'.

Re: Stewart
As Barca* prove, play football the right way and size is unimportant. I think some of the smaller players would do far better with us than at many clubs in this country, simply because of our style. It's why I also think we could make players look good who'd be shit/average in other teams.
I'm sure there are countless tiny players in Spain and the rest of the mainland who look great, but stick them in amongst the technically retarded cloggers of the English game and unless they're comically talented, or put within a slick passing team, they'd struggle.
*I know we're not Barca, we're much less boring.

It's all the twats going on about Power pocketing the money that do my nut it. They seem oblivious to the 2014 loss in the accounts or the fact we are about to spunk a fair few million on a new training ground...
