Yep. But it appears that the saving on Wes and Williams' wages has been stripped from this year's budget - not retained for maybe 4 new players' wages.
Let's just imagine that some of the 3 mill that Power says he put in, were used to cover the wages of Wes/Williams, so when we get the wonga from Mass/Gladwin, he pays himself back. Isn't this what he means by being sustainable. I'd imagine that if we get the required fee for Michael Smith then some of it will be re-invested.

That looks more likely now as Everton have bought Holgate from Barnsley for £2m.

Just not sure how we've spent everything we have. We've secured loan players on the cheap and signed only trials who surely cant command high wages. The squad is threadbare as we all know. I'd hoped there would be enough to get 2/3 more in so we can at least have a bench of pro's and not youth lads when all are fit.
The longer term concern is Byrne/Kasim. Clearly we have not got the flexibility to offer them anything greater to stay so will we sell them in the next couple of weeks to get some value from them (assuming there is enough interest) or do they leave for nothing next year. Given the money we took this summer to be in the current situation, letting two of your biggest assets go for free next year makes it somewhat worrying to think what the budget would be the year after.
Anyway probably worrying for nothing. Power himself has said he wants 1 or 2 more in. I think as i said originally they just cant really justify the money on a defender when we have Thompson/Williams/Branco/Turnbull/BOO and Byrne/Stewart who can slot in as full back or wing back. They would like another but getting 1 or 2 attacking players in is key and that's obviously where they have earmarked the budget.
The average league one salary is a little under £100k a year I think, so somewhere between 15 and 20 players would wipe our budget out.

yes and said cap will be based on projections of income based on guessing home gate and other admissible sources .
as rob said, you can't just spend more. but projections may be amenable mid season (from memory).
my 'not invested' comment was that we haven't bought anyone yet, thought we'd have a couple cheap options lined up to flog on later.
also a little surprised we are reducing budget now it's been stated that season ticket sales were marginally up, surely the away fan numbers weren't massive last year anyway?
but breakeven is what it is, I assume power had a better handle on the figures than us.

We wouldn't have got the cash for Mass/Gladwin in full yet, it will be spread over a period of time -there is unlikely to be a couple of mill burning a hole in Powers pocket from this as we speak.

In the present media blackout do we know that they haven't been offered better/longer deals this summer and turned them down?

Of course, but the money could be earmarked for repayment purposes as and when it comes in.

He's also got the debenture to worry about - can't ever sell the club without paying it off to Black first.
