Maybe he wasn't interested. Maybe we weren't interested. Maybe we were interested but he wanted paying.

Probably down to the size of the £ in question.  You need to remember that they when they are on trial for us in high profile friendlies, they are also out to impress any watching scouts of which there are probably many.  I am sure he was made more offers based on his friendly performances for us.

To everyone constantly asking "where the Luongo cash is and why are we not spending it all these millions of pounds" please stop.

This pile of millions of pounds doesn't exist. Both fees almost certainly paid over the length of the contract, plus ongoing costs, settling debt etc. We were never, and will never, nor should never, receive a couple of million thus spend a couple of million. We're a selling club. We use the money to run the club. If Power sees a player he wants and thinks will make us a profit, we'll (try to) buy him, irrelevent if we have recently sold someone for a couple of quid recently or not.

Please stop this nonsense.

Also slagging the club off for not taking a further look at a trialist is a bit stupid without knowing more than one tiny thing about the story or the situation.

I think it is valid to ask or wonder what the money has gone toward.

Plus the Wembley money which was best part of £1m, plus getting Wes and Williams' wages now off the books surely must have eased things a lot.

Power may well have pocketed some which is fair enough.

Eased things? Sure. Mean we're going to waste money on players? Absolutely not.

Power spends money when he knows it's the right thing to do. He's spent more in transfer fees than anyone else at the helm recently (I'm guessing...), yet there's still this underlying thought that he's tight, and trousering cash left, right and centre.

I disagree with a lot of things about the club, as does everyone, but to moan about Power not spending money is both incorrect (because he does) and not wise (because, for once, we're not lurching towards financial meltdown yet still compete, very well it should be said).

My feelings about it also, was going to post something very similar myself.

Waste money on players?

Yeah, those pesky players cluttering up a football club.

Whatever next.

Why spend money on transfer fees when suitable ability players are available for free?

Power is frugal but knows the ropes and knows what we can feasibly afford wages wise and won't overpay for players when other freebies are available.

Obviously buying a player who makes us money and improves the team is not a waste, which is exactly what Power has done and will do, as I said.

Buying average players when we can get as good for free, with no re-sale value, just to placate a naive fanbase is obviously a waste.

Yes, as Di Canio was allowed to which is ultimately why Black got disillusioned.

Nobody is advocating buying average players - no football club does that - they may turn out to be average but the initial intention is to get the best you can.

What people really mean is that if Power can, and has, paid transfer fees for players without the benefit of player sales/Wembley money/expensive contracts terminated, then why not now.

Which, of course, he may yet still do so.
