but it's fair game to assess where we are right now IMO, otherwise we may as well close the football chatter until September

Sure. I also think that we need more players and I doubt you'll find many, if any, that would disagree.

But getting worried about it with 5 weeks till the transfer window closes? Nah!.

But the season starts in two  Eek
Red card ( always a possibility with Branco/Thompson in the team ) and a couple of injuries early doors and we are fucked.
Strength in depth is lacking right now.

Luckily we got our business done early doors

fair enough fh,  no doubt we may or may not be OK in 5 weeks time Smiley

Robert looks like a good signing, as much as you can tell from pre-season anyway.

what's with the 1 year deal though, though we were going longer term this time. suppose it's an initial one year with options

I think people are missing the point that Power said our business would be done early this summer. That is clearly not the case, (I didn't expect the squad to be complete 2 weeks before the season starts fwiw) and is more than likely the reason why people are a little bit agitated. Logic tells you that the longer your squad is in place throughout pre-season the more chance they will have had to gel as a unit and subsequently take this into the start of the season. The only bollock LP has dropped is stating that business would be done early & by early I think it's fair to presume he meant around this point.

Maybe he tried but nothing came off. How do you know he hasn't been on the phone?

I'm definitely not convinced the squad is complete.

Course he's been on the phone & clearly we've missed out on targets as the squad is about 5 light in my opinion. My point was he shouldn't have said that our business would be done early as that is a very difficult promise to keep. I'm not advocating signing players for the sake of it, just maybe a better phraseology of how we intended going about our business would have been a bit wiser. Fwiw I love the way he's running the club from a footballing perspective & the majority of what he's done has been sucessful sp far.

Think Power was talking about the sales of Mass and Gladwin, when he mentioined early business....we are not likely to add players to the wage bill unnecessarily in the summer.

No, I'm pretty sure he meant signings as he cited the court case with Jed as the reason why players weren't brought in earlier last summer and that we wouldn't have a repeat this year.

Yeah he did mean signings. I'm guessing the early ones he thought we would get fell through, or got put on the back burner whilst his target's club(s) sorted something. There's not been that many transfers so far this summer really, obviously the first domino hasn't fallen far yet.

I think the Traders have only brought in one player in to date and their fans are mega twitchy with their very thin squad.

And their chairman shits fivers!

This thread is very black or white.  Those that think it's fine not to panic until the window "slams shut" and those that are raising some concerns about the lack of news/activity.

From my point of view I think both points of view hold merit, but I think accusing somebody of being childish for showing concerns on a football discussion forum is a bit OTT.  If you can't have these discussions at this time of the year what can you do?  Talk about Cheese and Manatees?

Anyone know why we didn't give Diakite a bit more of a go - looked decent and could do with some PERMANENT signings - wot happened to the Luongo/Gladwin dosh, surely a small amount could be used for new signings ?   Sad
