A Colchester fan has posted on the Football Rumours website that we're in talks with George Moncur. I know most of the stuff posted on there is shit but this could actually be plausible as he fits our criteria of player.
He probably got that from me and I got it from page 1205 of this thread... I would like it to be true though.

Our league finishes the past 4 seasons: 4th 8th 6th 1st
Barring a few players, we have had not far off a new squad for each of those new seasons. The past 2 seasons especially, everyone including half our own fans have tipped us to be near the relegation zone. Yet the last 4 seasons we have played exciting, attacking football and with a title, 2 play off appearances and 8th (finishing just outside the playoffs) it's been a good solid few seasons. With a shrewd chairman and a manager who has done this same merry go round the last 2 seasons I see no reason for that to change. We will have a decent side come August/September and be there all there abouts again, let's just hope 1 better and we get promotion. This will not be a strong league this season.

2 of those seasons aren't worth mentioning as they were 'spend until you get it right' seasons. admittedly the wheels came off in the second of those but the players were good enough to get us over the line.
last season and this has been impressive, build then push with lower budgets. nobody is I hope saying it can't be done again. it's been done once, so of course or can. but risk does increase.
if we keep finding players like we have done this will be the greatest model in the football league.
what we need is Sherwood to get sacked every two years, then get a job at another premier league team..only partly serious, there must also be some kasim and gladwin types out there, though I'm sure every man and his dog are looking for them.

As Batch points out the nearly 2 PdC seasons were noted for the spend and high turn over of players.....and 2 of our players from last season Wes and Williams, were from those times we wouldn't be getting under the new model.
3 of PdC's more successful players were Ritchie, Flint and Ferry, again leftovers from a previous regime.
Last season we had a core of maybe Wes, Byrne, Kas, Mass, Thompson twins, Gladwin, Mighty Michael Smith, who we knew could potentially improve.
This season the core is a bit smaller.....Belford, Branco, Nathan, Rodgers, Obika and Hylton...and perhaps not the same quality, so makes the rebuild more difficult, and will require patience from the fans.

I'll throw a lazy Spurs-old-boys suggestion - Giancarlo Gallifuoco has been released by Swansea City. He played with Byrne and Luongo et al at Tottenham.

JET, apparently, is going up in the world - he's joining Sherwood at Villa.

However, over the past couple of seasons it has become apparent that there are some flaws in Ormonde-Ottewill’s game, most notably his positioning, which has seen him caught out on several occasions to the detriment of the team. He'll fit in perfectly.

He certainly does, especially this bit... However, over the past couple of seasons it has become apparent that there are some flaws in Ormonde-Ottewill’s game, most notably his positioning, which has seen him caught out on several occasions to the detriment of the team.
